Glorious Nosebleed (UK)
Glorious Nosebleed (UK) | Edward Gorey
2 posts | 1 read
'The Glorious Nosebleed' trips through the alphabet with illustrations that are both strikingly funny, and a bit weird, all the way from 'She wandered among the trees Aimlessly' to 'He wrote it all down Zealously'. A classic of Gorey's imaginative and darkly humorous mind.

Thanks for the tag, @The_Penniless_Author 😀
1: The Glorious Nosebleed: Fifth Alphabet by Edward Gorey.
2: Gorey's sardonic wit, both with the marvelously detailed illustrations and with the haiku-brief captions.
3. Hmm, tough one 🤔 Maybe a Gothic castle in a forest 🌳🏰🌳, or a ship voyaging through a distant island archipelago 🏝️⛵🏝️ (the latter easily translates to a spaceship visiting distant planets 🪐🚀🪐)

"The Glorious Nosebleed", subtitled "Fifth Alphabet" is, unsurprisingly, Gorey's fifth abcedary, focusing on terminal adverbs, all of which are at least amusing, if not chuckle-worthy. A personal favourite is "She served the pudding Clumsily", if only because it reminds me of Victoria Wood's "Two Soups" sketch.
Gloriously Gorey, indeed. 5⭐
