Solitude of Guadeloupe
Solitude of Guadeloupe: Pregnant Black Freedom Fighter and Martyred Heroine | Phillip Thomas Tucker
4 posts | 1 read
This groundbreaking book by Phillip Thomas Tucker, Ph.D., is the first non-fictional biography about a remarkable woman of color named Solitude. She has gained a special place in the annals of Caribbean and Women's history as a lover of liberty. Even while pregnant, she was a dynamic leader of a heroic band of freedom fighters who battled against the horrors of slavery when Napoleon Bonaparte's troops invaded the island of Guadeloupe to restore slavery in 1802. After her capture in a doomed battle against the odds, Solitude was allowed to give birth to her child before she was executed by the French on the following morning. Today, the people of Guadeloupe celebrate the courage, unconquerable spirit, and defiance of their greatest heroine and martyr, Solitude.

Mehso-so

Solitude was a young black woman freed from slavery after the French Revolution. But when Napoleon tried to restore slavery on the island of #Guadeloupe, while pregnant she joined and fought in the resistance. She was captured and executed the day after she gave birth. That‘s basically all that is known, but this author repeats it ad nauseum to fill more than half the book. The second half is a little about the resistance; it lost. The book ⬇️

Texreader has immense potential but is sorely wasted. The author‘s sources: the bulk are…wait for it…himself and other books he‘s written. I‘m very glad to learn about the existence of Solitude in our world history, but this is not the book to read if you want to learn anything more than I‘ve already shared. #readingtheAmericas 6mo
Librarybelle Yeesh. Not the Stephen King of history in my mind…😂 6mo
Texreader @Librarybelle Do you want to know why he calls himself that? Because he‘s “written” over 200 books. Well, when you repeat yourself and self-publish, I can see how that‘s possible 6mo
Librarybelle OMG…totally agree 6mo

This is my next ebook for #readingtheAmericas for #Guadeloupe. I've been so excited to read this one. I just added it to the Litsy database, so it's worth your while to read the summary. It sounds so good. And, it's only 65 pages! @Librarybelle @BarbaraBB

To be honest, though, I'm not sure what to make of the description of the author: “The Stephen King of History...“

KathyWheeler That‘s a weird description — comparing him to Stephen King. 6mo
