Holiday Country: A Novel | ?nci Atrek
5 posts | 4 read | 2 to read
A seductive and lyrical debut following a young womans dangerous summer romance during an idyllic vacation on the Aegean coast "A gorgeous exploration." Raven Leilani, author of Luster "A book full of pleasures." Kirkus Ada adores spending every summer in a Turkish seaside town with her mother and grandmother at the family villa. The glittering waters, endless olive groves, and her spirited friends make it easy to leave her idle life in California behind. But no matter how much Ada feels she belongs to the country where her mother grew up, deep down, her connection to the culture feels as fleeting as the seasons. When Levent, a mysterious man from her mothers past, shows up in their town, Ada cant help but imagine a different future for her motherone that promises a return to home, to love, to happiness. But while playing matchmaker, Ada has to come to terms with her own intensifying attraction to Levent. Does the future shes fighting for belong to her motheror to her alone? Lush and evocative, ?nci Atreks Holiday Country is a rapturous meditation about what it means to experience being of two worlds, the limitations and freedom of a life in translation, and the intricacies of a love triangle that stretches across generations and continents.

This book is character driving and I didn‘t particularly like the character. I feel like I have been leisurely siting on a patio overlooking the Aegean Sea and watching the neighbor girl make poor choices. It is bit of a coming age tale over the course of one summer but I don‘t think the character learned anything. Read for #foodandlit @Catsandbooks @Texreader

Inci Atrek did a beautiful job in describing the Turkish landscapes and the Aegean Sea. But...the characters were not the greatest, especially the main character. Ada was a 19 year old on summer break with her mom in Turkey. At first, Ada tried to help her mom after a big discovery, but then Ada betrayed her mom by getting involved with her mom's old love. And why? Aye... 2⭐️

I loved this book! Beautiful writing describing a beautiful place and young girls journey of finding herself when torn between 2 places. I love when a story transports me immediately and this one certainly did that. Would love to follow more of the main character, Ada's, life in the future.

This is a debut novel from Inci Atrek and it was a great one! I still haven‘t wrapped my head around some of the decisions that Ada made during this story but it definitely made for an entertaining read. I found myself just flying through the pages because I had to know the outcome. As much as I hated the decisions I couldn‘t get enough of it.
Thank you to the publisher for the advance copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review!
