What‘s not to love in this. Eastern Europe, a keep, and a vampire with a taste for Nazi blood.
Would love to find more of F. Paul Wilson‘s work, I‘ve seldom seen anything from him in Australia.
This book had so much going for it. Vampires, Nazis, Romania, a mysterious keep, threats to the world, good vs. evil, a star-crossed love story, etc. It began so well but got so boring and contrived. An early book for the writer, he just doesn't get the female character right either. She is a cardboard figure. Her love story is awkward and happens way too quickly. Finally, when we find out what is actually going on, I felt like....huh?
I remember watching the movie with my dad as a kid. I was so excited to find out it was a book. And a great one at that. I found it to be far better than many of the horror novels I've read from the last two decades. Great story. Fast pace. Nice and dark. Wonderful horror. Can't wait to read the rest.
