I liked this, yet I didn‘t? It was touching, yet sometimes I felt like, What‘s the point?” This one is difficult to figure out what exactly I feel about it.

A re-read for me. A sharply realized poignant portrait of a servant woman's life. Its sympathetic portrayal of the lower class makes this story memorable, as normally a servant's life would be forgotten.
Flaubert's story focuses on illiterate servant Felicite & her years working for Madame Aubain, including her time as a nanny for the two children. To many people she encounters, Felicite is perceived as being somewhat naive. Felicite's devotion to not only the family she works for, but her own family & later in life, a pet parrot, is deeply moving. Her dedication to those around her despite life's rough treatment is no small miracle.
