Meet Me at the Crossroads | Megan Giddings
3 posts | 3 read | 2 to read
From the award-winning, critically-acclaimed author of Lakewood and The Women Could Fly, a dazzling novel about two brilliant sisters and what happens to their undeniable bond when a mysterious and possibly perilous new world beckons. On an ordinary summer morning, the world is changed by the appearance of seven mysterious doors that seemingly lead to another world. People are, of course, mesmerized and intrigued: A new dimension filled with beauty and resources beckons them to step into an adventure. But, perhaps inevitably, people soon learn that what looks like paradise may very well be filled with danger.Ayanna and Olivia, two Black midwestern teens--and twin sisters--have different ideas of what may lie in the world beyond. But will their personal bond endure such wanton exploration? And when one of them goes missing, will the other find solace on her own? And will she uncover the circumstances of what truly happened to her once constant companion and best friend?Megan Giddings brings her customarily brilliant and eye-opening powers of storytelling to give us a narrative that dazzles the senses and bewitches the mind. Meet Me at the Crossroads is an unforgettable novel about faith, love, and family from one of today's most exciting and surprising young writers.

Ayanna is a twin, but when she chose to live with their father after the divorce, her sister Olivia chose their mother. While Olivia lives a conventional life and attends Catholic mass, Ayanna is raised in the ways of Pathsong, a group devoted to the study of mysterious blue doors that appeared spontaneously around the world. A reflective, deeply moving novel about grief and finding meaning through connection, although the ending was a bit evasive

Sorry for the "feet pic"! Lol I had to spend my FSA money before the end of the month or lose it all, so I decided to get myself a foot massager (also three pairs of new glasses, but I don't have those yet to show off). Anyway, I'm enjoying a leisurely Sunday morning with a new book and surprisingly good massage. I may not leave this spot for a while. ?

AlaMich We seriously miscalculated our FSA amount this year…do you recommend the massager? I gotta spend this money! 6mo
Rachel.Rencher @AlaMich I did, too! Well, I funded it to pay an existing medical bill and then found out I couldn't use it because it was outside of the plan period, so that's where the surplus came from. ? But yes, I liked the massager! If you go on Amazon, they have an "FSA/HSA" shop where you can just scroll through and see everything that's applicable! 6mo
AlaMich @Rachel.Rencher Thanks! 6mo
tpixie @Rachel.Rencher wow! Great info re: Amazon!!! Your feet and eyes will be happy! 6mo

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ ~ Out June 3rd!
This work of speculative fiction (there are doors to another realm, spirits and ghosts, and speaking with the dead) asks us to contemplate faith, grief, family, privilege, influencer culture, and how to move forward when we've suffered profound loss and feel partly to blame. It is also a beautiful ode to the power of friendship and chosen family. (Cont'd in comments)

steph_phanie While reading this, I fought so hard to keep my eyes from wandering ahead because I wanted to experience everything in "real time" with the characters. Looking ahead, even just a line or two, was so tempting! But the suspense and emotions made being patient worth it. ? 8mo
