I am pretty sure the last time I read a Grisham novel was when the movie with Susan Sarandon came out (The Client?). #netgalley gave me the incentive I needed to try another during last week‘s sick day. It felt uneven to me. The first half was pretty gripping and I wanted Simon to run screaming from the widow. Then things took a pivot with the court case and I was way less interested. It was like two different books. 5/10

You Grisham fans will enjoy this one. Grisham is a master at weaving very believable tales.

Greed pulled Simon in. Murder had him wishing he had never met Eleanor. This was a chance of a lifetime for Simon. He was in a horrible marriage. In the process of divorce. He has three children who he loves with all his heart. His law practice is barely keeping him afloat and he seems to gamble to much. But Simon is a good guy. Isn't he?

John Grisham‘s books have a very specific style and this book is as Grisham as it gets. Lucky for me I like his books. I recently heard him explain courtroom scenes are his favorite parts of a book to write so I gave that aspect specific attention. Problem for me here was much of what happened prior to the courtroom became insignificant. But I guess that sadly happens in life, as well .

It‘s always a delight to receive signed copies of John Grisham‘s new books from Square Books. Grisham recently released his first whodunit thriller, titled ‘The Widow.‘ I eagerly preordered my signed, first edition copy from Square Books, an independent bookstore located in Oxford, Mississippi. I can‘t wait to immerse myself in this novel!
