Twenty-Four Good Deeds,
Anonymously Gifted By December 24th,
Then Maybe You'll Glimpse,
In The Twelve Days Following,
A Christmas Angel At Work.

Zoey Lopez read the instructions over and again.

AnnCrystal The riddle had come inside of a Christmas card that featured an old fashioned golden Angel on the front. The words of the riddle were written in her Grandma Belen's cursive handwriting.

Zoey had received the card four Christmases ago, when she was eight years old.

Twelve year old Zoey was running out of hope that the riddle held an ounce of truth.

She had tried everything a child was capable of trying.

AnnCrystal Donating old toys, raised money for charity by learning to bake cookies, talked her mom into volunteering to help clean their local park, was careful with her clothing and shoes so that they could be donated when she grew out of them.

Zoey kept little journals where she kept track of all her good deeds, just to make sure that she did not accidentally miscount.

AnnCrystal And for twelve days after Christmas Eve, Zoey would keep a sharp eye out for a chance to see a real Angel at work.

At twelve years old, Zoey was realizing that she had been bedazzled by a fantasy. She now believed her Grandma Belen had gifted her with false hope.

AnnCrystal It was on Christmas day when Zoey was contemplating this apparent fact, while she sat in a train station with her mother, father, and little brother.

They all sat waiting for Grandma Belen who was moving in with Zoey's family now that she was retiring.

Suddenly, there was a flashing of light that captured Zoey's attention. Not like from a flashlight, but like a reflective bouncing of light.

AnnCrystal Zoey looked up and saw a man pick up something an older woman had dropped, then the man turned around as the older woman continued on her way.

The man looked directly at Zoey and winked as giant wings shook out like a white plumage Condor who was showing off his wingspan.

No one else in the crowded train station seemed to notice the Angel as Zoey gasped.

AnnCrystal In his hand Zoey noted that the Angel held a paint brush and crochet hook before a group of people walked in front of the Angel, paying him no attention as they rushed by the winged man.

Zoey blinked, and the Christmas Angel vanished.

It was only then that she realized that the older woman whom the Angel had helped had been her very own Grandmother.

Grandma Belen pulled Zoey into a tight hug as she mentioned a nice young man who picked up the gift she had dropped in her rush.

It was a gift for Zoey, a mini canvas bag that Grandma Belen had hand painted a golden Angel upon and filled with craft supplies.

Zoey continued her good deeds, including crafting gifts with the help of her Grandma Belen teaching her new works of art.
