She had survived, but she is still held captive... Of her memories, her loneliness, her delusions. But are they truly delusions? The survivor of a college dorm massacre, a woman accused of her lovers murder, Madeline Hewitson is haunted by ghosts and tormented by a killer only she can see. At night, she works, writing and drawing the monster that slithers through her imagination, and living in fear of those moments when the doors of her mind unhinge and her nightmare lives in the daylight. A seasoned military veteran, Jacob Denisov lives alone in his small, darkened home, sleepless, starving, and angry. Every day he lives with the guilt that comes from his own failures and the carnage that followed. When neighbor Madeline Hewitson drives her car through the front wall of his house, she breaks his houseand his lifewide open. Forced to view the world outside, Jacob watches Maddie, recognizes a kindred spirit and wonders what she fears more than herself. Has someone caught her in a twisted labyrinth of revenge and compassion, guilt and redemption, murder and madness? When Maddie's imaginary killer takes form, she fights back. But will she be strong enough to triumph, or is the killer she fears no more than a shadow, an illusion...that watches?

I enjoyed hate reading this, for whatever that‘s worth. 2.5⭐️

It is the start of the holiday. I'm going to read a favorite and drink a cold beverage.

This series keeps getting better! 2 broken people, some romance, a lot of suspense (a la Rear Window and Gaslight), quirky characters that aren't always likeable. This book help me in its grip for 2 days.

Waiting for kid to get out of class so I can drop her off at work and go back to my job as well. It's rainy and yuck here but I'm closing in on the end of this book!

#aprilbookshowers #firstlineofcurrentread I'm reading a few books at the moment but this is the one at hand right now. Almost done with it actually.

Now, it's been awhile since I read The Raven last but I'm pretty sure it's "Nevermore". Now I'm thinking I need to look it up. Otherwise this is a pretty good book.

Leniverse Yes. It's "Quoth the Raven 'Nevermore'" throughout the poem. (Although Lenore is "nameless here for evermore" in the second stanza.) That's some seriously shoddy proofreading! 7y
CocoReads So far it's been the only glaring obvious literary error. Thanks--I'm too lazy to walk across campus to look it up. Figured I'd look when I got home but I think I'll be ready for bed when I get there! 7y

I love Christina Dodd's historicals, but this was my first of her romantic suspense novels. I wound up reading most of it in one day, fully engrossed in the town of Virtue Falls. Though I would have liked more scenes between Maddie and Jacob, I would definitely recommend this book.

Not my favorite Christina Dodd. It was a quick read but I was mostly felt feeling meh about the mystery and most of the characters.

This is my favorite book in the Virtue Falls series. Great suspense, I had some guesses as to who and why, but I was still surprised. Dodd melded 2 movies - Gaslight and Rear Window in this novel. I've only seen one, I'll have to watch the other now.

MissCarrieLou You mentioned to of my fave old movies, now I have to read this. Haha. :) 8y
