The Socialite is the first book I have read by J"nell Ciesielski. I won't be the last. This is a historical fiction set in France during WWII.

Kate Whitford is the oldest daughter of Sir Walter Whitfield. She always follows the rules and does what a Lady should do.

Eleanor is Kate's younger sister. She is the total opposite. She has runoff to Paris and is staying with a German soldier. Kate goes off to get her back.

MonicaLoves2Read Barrett is a Scot that works for SIS. He gets tasked at making sure the sisters get back from France safely. A romance sparks between Kate and him.

Ciesielski writes a beautiful book that is full of suspense and intrigue. She made me feel as if I was right there with the characters. There is great character development, especially in Ellie (Eleanor).

If you like Historical Fiction, you should read this book. I highly recommend it. Could end up in top 5 of read books this year by me.

This book was emotional, informative, captivating and beautifully written. I finished it in tears and with a new appreciation for what people endured during World War 2.
The women in this book are full of grit, love, passion and bravery. These pages capture a side of the war we often don‘t hear about. This is a must read to remind ourselves of the suffering people went through to give us the lives of freedom we live today.

25-4. SO GOOD! I couldn‘t put this down. Loved the mystery of which sister is narrating. Both sisters‘ stories were interesting to me. I cried multiple times at the horrifying things the Nazis did- especially the stories involving young children, as I couldn‘t imagine being in that situation with my young kids. Really wish our country would study this era closely to avoid repeating.

I have few words as I finish reading this. I'm extremely glad that I splurged to buy the "pretty" version on getting the recommendation, as this has now become one of my favourite books. There's a beauty to the ugliness of the war story told in these pages. I didn't expect to be so affected by it. #39-2025

I forgot my Kindle and a book at home. I ran by Mardel's Christian Store and grabbed a book. Now I'm going to read before my doctor appointment.

This is a really dark, but really good world war 2 book. The Germans are ruthless, and she has to protect France with her comrades and find her mother. She has lovers and has to decide who to spend her life with. Genevieve has quality lovers and family, but the war makes her worry about losing them. She is not weak, but she isn‘t immortal. She is brave, but she also suffers. I loved this book.

Incredible. This was just as devastating as everybody said it would be. I need more of her books.
This story of two sisters, who experience the Nazis taking over their home of Paris, is so well done. The way they are both different people, yet deep down desire the same thing. Which is complex while staying simple to each woman. I‘m in awe for the writing style; bringing about such a terrible story and making it feel so real.
