What the Lady Wants | Rene Rosen
Bailedbailed

I made it 136 pages into this book before calling it quits 🏆Prior to this page, there was some eye rolling and some “Ughs” thrown about, but a specific line on this page got me to throw in the towel. I‘m not a romance fan so I shouldn‘t have even picked this book up, BUT I love Chicago, Marshall Field‘s (the store), and historical fiction so I thought I‘d give it a chance. I tried, but no. Onto the next book!

Aims42 @dabbe I love this hashtag!!! 😁🙌🤩 I read the one-star reviews on Goodreads for this book and it was nice to know I wasn‘t the only one not impressed 😅 5mo

The Great Fire | Jim Murphy

The story recounts the devastating events of the 1871 Great Chicago Fire. Through meticulous research and engaging storytelling, Murphy explores the fire's causes, its impact on the city, and the subsequent rebuilding efforts. The book provides a narrative, drawing on primary sources to show the human times during this pivotal moment history. It offers an insightful look at the things people went through in the aftermath of this historic disaster.

Renee Rosen writes some amazing historical fiction set in Chicago. Tagged is my fav. I love all the Chicago museums, especially the Shedd Aquarium. I have great pics of the artwork on display made from garbage collected in the ocean. Which is sad but they‘ve made something beautiful if it. I‘m too whooped from training to hunt the pics down right now. #TravelTuesday

SilversReviews LOVED both of these books. Well..all her books are good. 😀 2y

Mehso-so

An historical and biographical fiction, this was the story of Delia Caton and Marshall Field‘s scandalous affair. There was some info dumping here and I was uncomfortable with the author making up stories about Dell‘s husband and Marsh‘s wife that are meant to make their well chronicled affair more understandable to the reader. It wasn't until somewhat recently that I delved in to historical fiction, but I've since discovered some real gems. Take this beautifully covered book for example...

Drawn from and based on real history, which was in and of itself very interesting, this story was also replete with mystery and intrigue as well as inspiration and romance. Truly, the perfect blend of all. Can't wait to read the next book when it comes out.

4.5 stars

Aims42 I‘m so glad you enjoyed this!!! I can‘t wait for the next book to come out 🙌🏻 3y
monkeygirlsmama @Aims42 Same! I haven't even gotten around to looking to see if there was a ETA for it. Do you know when the 2nd books is due out? 3y
Aims42 @monkeygirlsmama Feb. 2nd!!! I put my pre-order in halfway thru this first book 😆 Thankfully we don‘t have long to wait 🥳 3y

“They're armed, scared, eager, and untested. A terrible combination.“

Sounds awful familiar and analogous to the faction of militia and rioters who stormed the capitol a week ago and still seem incapable of accepting our current political “leadership“ is legitimately on the way out.

On the night of the Great Chicago Fire will artist Meg & sister Sylvie‘s bookshop be lost? Can a murder mystery be solved and save their father, a Civil War vet with Soldier‘s Heart (PTSD)? Who will find romance amidst these circumstances?

This book. Wow! I‘m so glad I won‘t have to wait long for book no. 2 in the series, it comes out next month 🙌🏻🤩🥳 Definitely recommending to fans of historical fiction, especially those interested in the Great Chicago fire🔥🔥

monkeygirlsmama I have only recently gotten into the historical fiction genre, and now I've heard about this one at least two or three times. I'm taking it as a sign that I should stack it! :) 3y
Aims42 @monkeygirlsmama I recommend giving it a read 👏🏻 I will admit, it took me about 30ish pages to get into it, but after that I was hooked. I totally do the “sign” thing too if I see a book 2-3 times in a short time 😂 My husband doesn‘t understand the logic, but that‘s why I have Litsy 🥰 3y
monkeygirlsmama @Aims42 Oooh I just found it on Hoopla, so it'll be my next read after I finish the one I'm starting now (also on Hoopla). 😁

Btw, I meant to say earlier, your above book photo is stunning.

Aims42 @monkeygirlsmama Nice!!! I hope you enjoy it 😃 Thank you for the kind words about the pic too, I had fun editing it 🤓 3y
