No Humans Involved | Kelley Armstrong

About 9 years ago, I picked up this book and completely fell in love with it. It opened me up to a whole new genre. As a reader, getting asked to be the official bookstore for #NolaStoryCon has been a dream come true. As a bookseller, it's definitely a career highlight. Here I am this afternoon with Kelley Armstrong and Kevin Hearne at the last event for 2016's StoryCon. I'm ready for 2017 (well, after I get some serious sleep).

melbeautyandbooks That's awesome. Way to go! 8y

You guys!!! This book was amazing! A very powerful bruja traveling through Los Lagos to save her family and trying to decide how to accept her magic and who she is? Sign me up! And it's witty and funny and dark and magical all at the same time. It does start a little slow, but it is so worth it! Also, the audio narration is fantastic! And I met Zoraida Cordova last night! She was so nice and didn't think I was crazy for completely freaking out!

LauraBeth Great pic! 8y
angrylilasian I just started the book and I'm already hooked! 8y

There were a few of these that were just okay, but most of them were good! I've found that short stories are really good introductions to an author for me, like character sketches with a plot. My favorites were probably "Hearken" by Veronica Roth and "Branded" by Kelley Armstrong! Side note: I am now in New Orleans, and I actually HAD A CONVERSATION WITH KELLEY ARMSTRONG yesterday!!! This will be an amazing week! #nolastorycon

BethFishReads Kelley Armstrong 😍 8y
readinginthedark @BethFishReads Right?! And yesterday, I took a picture with her! This trip is crazy amazing! 8y

Everyone posts pictures of Creepy Jesus when they visit New Orleans. I finally got to see it last night when Melissa Marr took us on a walking tour of the city. #nolastorycon

BookishFeminist Oh Jesus (literally) 8y
readinginthedark I crashed before dark, but were you on the earlier tour, too? Because I was! 😊 8y
johnnie_cakes @readinginthedark We weren't on one of the official tours. We got in late with all the books and were just out walking and chilling 8y
readinginthedark @johnnie_cakes Oh, yeah we just got there five minutes before the first one! But I'll be around for the rest of the con, so you should find me and say hi! I'll be the one with light blue hair and dark roots hanging out with my red-headed friend! And my first name is Hannah. 8y

We're heading to New Orleans for #NolaStoryCon. One of things we'll be doing is selling books at the Magic Binds Launch Party! (If we ever get there, we've sitting in traffic for 2 hours because there's some sulphur spill on the freeway up ahead)

balletbookworm 🙊 oh no! 8y
ApoptyGina69 Have a great time and enjoy the yummy food! 🤗👍🍤🍦If you have time, there's a great diner called the Clover Grill on Bourbon Street (double-check), but up a few blocks toward the edge of the Quarter. Down-home deliciousness!! 8y
johnnie_cakes @ApoptyGina69 I love Clover Grill, I can't wait to take my husband for his first trip. 8y
ApoptyGina69 @johnnie_cakes woot!! Do they still have the "clever girl" t-shirts you think? Regret not getting one. 8y

I think this all the time.

And this time tomorrow I'll be in New Orleans! #nolastorycon Does anyone have a favorite bookstore or reading spot they'd recommend I find?

Lola Faulkner House Books is right near Café du Monde, where you must go café au lait/chicory coffee & beignets, in Jackson Square Park in the French Quarter. You can get you coffee and beignets to go and eat then in the park while you read :) @bookriot has at least two posts about bookish NOLA that you should check out. 8y
readinginthedark @Lola Thank you! 8y

The lighting and my hair were horrible for this, so I messed around with the coloring a bit. Anyway, this book is so funny! Didn't mean to miss #bookfacefriday! Still loving this one! So much fun, and yet so much parenting truth! #nolastorycon

LauraBeth I ❤️ the title 😀 8y
readinginthedark @LauraBeth It's really great! If you like humorous paranormal stuff, this is perfect! 8y

"'You are the blood of my blood, and you are more than enough.'"
This book is making my heart both swell and break. So beautiful. Sorry I haven't been on much, everyone! I'm reading a lot and trying to prep for my trip to #nolastorycon. So excited--I know you all understand!

readinginthedark I didn't realize my picture didn't show up! That's disappointing, sorry. 8y

I was wary of reading this, because I was disappointed with how Harris ended the Sookie Stackhouse series. And I don't know if it's the collaboration, but I really enjoyed this one. I've also seen complaints about there not being enough information about the MC but I disagree. For the beginning of a trilogy, this was well-explained. And I liked the art. I'm fascinated to find out who Calexa is and what she'll do next. #readanebookday #nolastorycon

Just found out that Zoraida Cordova will be at NoLA StoryCon, so I started this one earlier than I'd planned, and I'm loving it! So into the Latin American magic and mythology--do any of you have recommendations of more books like this (doesn't have to be YA or even fiction)?

readinginthedark Meant to tag this! #nolastorycon 8y
