This was a re-read for me for my mystery book group. I loved revisiting an old favorite; Austen is an amateur sleuth in this series, using her wit to solve crimes. Barron nearly matches 19th century narration as she writes in the voice of Austen, who records in a diary her attempts to solve a mystery. Janeites - take note! So enjoyable!

I skimmed the summary of this book and it didn't really seem like my kinda thing, but I read it anyway cuz someone recommended it to me. Can't say I enjoyed it, but that's on me. The book delivered exactly what it promised to deliver. Food memoirs just aren't for me.

Silver lining: I discovered there's a movie called “Relish“, so this counts as my #PopSugarReadingChallenge: “a book with the same title as a movie or TV show but is unrelated to it“

The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind | William Kamkwamba, Bryan Mealer

This memoir was about so much more than just a disadvantaged Malawian boy creating a windmill for electricity. At its core is a tale of ingenuity in the face of adversity, coupled with the power of friends, family, and strangers who believe in you and your potential. 4⭐️s! Other topics tackled included: scarcity, famine, effects of hunger on the brain, predatory price-gouging during famine, school fees and the cycle of poverty,👇🏽

lele1432 “Magic” and superstition used as a scapegoat for HIV/AIDS and famine, deforestation aiding in flooding and drought, farm livelihood dependent upon weather and fertilizer, and government corruption. It packed in a LOT and I admit some of the technical parts went over my head. But overall, an inspirational story I‘m glad to have read! Thanks @RachelO! (edited) 5d

RachelO Your prompts!! Brilliant! 🤣😂🤣 So glad you enjoyed it - he really did pack a lot in there. It shouldn‘t have, but the school fees thing really shocked me - it had just never occurred to me that the family would need to pay for his education in those circumstances. 4d
lele1432 @RachelO yes! I know here in the States we really take free primary/secondary education for granted. The school fees situation creating this cycle of poverty despite his obvious talent and ability to learn was heartbreaking. But it had a happy ending! 😊 4d

Such a touching story, ..and I love the cover; not quite a hardback, not quite paperback! 🤔💛📒

It took me a while to get the rhythm and understand what was going on but when I did I was taken away.
Beautifully touching.

Read with #lmpbc round7 groupZ.
With @CarolynM (thank you for such a beautiful pick!), @LapReader , and @LeeRHarry (it‘s on it‘s way to you now!).

This was a #LMPBC pick for #Round7 #GroupI Int‘l Translation. Translated from Japanese, this was a (near future?) dystopia that left me thinking a lot about memory, what it means to truly “disappear,” and the hopelessness of losing one‘s voice. Everyday objects disappear & The Memory Police are hunting anyone who remembers. I like “weird” books so this one worked for me! I enjoyed the writing & the growing sense of dread the author created. 4⭐️s!

Cinfhen I‘m so curious about this book!!! How weird was it?? Too weird or just slightly weird?? 😆 1w
lele1432 @Cinfhen lol! I‘d say pretty weird. It starts off mild enough, but by the end, it‘s not really based in any sort of reality. And you won‘t get any explanations for why/how things came to be, so don‘t expect that either lol. I was left wondering if it was one big allegory or..? 🤷🏽‍♀️ BUT it‘s a quick read and also had some thought-provoking depictions of scarcity! 1w
Cinfhen Nope!!! Not for me!! Thanks 🙏🏼 😘but glad you enjoyed it 1w
lele1432 @Cinfhen always glad to help! 😆 1w
aeeklund Nice timing!! The next book should get to you tomorrow! 1w

Cinfhen Looks good! I think someone else is hosting the #2020DystopianReads 😁 1w
WJCintron @Cinfhen Yes! I'm participating from a couple of challenges and crossing over some of the prompts/books which is allowed. That one is hosted by someone else. Sharing like it was requested by them. And it also fits your prompt for the #booked2020 under the 4th of July: red/blue/white type, summer prompt. It's a lot of fun!! Thanks for hosting!! 😃🙌 1w

Cinfhen Got it!!!! You are participating in lots of challenges/ me too!!! Sometimes it‘s hard to track them all 😅 1w
WJCintron @Cinfhen tell me about it!! 🤣😂 Last year I couldn't read at all, like only 12 or 13 books. I was more focused on writing and producing a web series. This year I want to read what I couldn't plus many more. Let's see what happens. Sometimes life gets in the way. 🙄 Have a great night! Gotta go to bed, it's 4:33am!!! Time to close the books and call it a night. 😁Zzzzzzzzz 🌛Bye!! 1w
