This is the third, most recent, entry in Liz Maverick‘s Chanukah rom-com. If you‘re tired of Christmas rom-coms, but still want something centered around this time of year, I recommend this series.
This is the second book in Liz Maverick‘s Chanukah rom-com series and was just as fun as the first one.
I‘m used to Christmas rom-coms. I think this is the first Chanukah rom-com I‘ve read. It was a nice change. And it was interesting to learn about how observant Jews and non-observant Jews celebrated in their own ways and with each other. This is the first book in a series. I‘ve read the second and third and will review those next. There‘s going to be at least one more for the holidays next year because there‘s still one more member of this(cont)⬇️
This was another fun romantasy by Molly Harper. I guess it‘s a romantasy. Or is it a paranormal romance? There is a plot plus ghosts and witches. Whatever you call it, I definitely enjoyed it.
#LitsyCrafters Do any of you remember the cross stitch cross that I was supposed to be working on? Well, I still don‘t have the heart for it. But this week I was thinking about what I want to give the two women who help me around the house for Christmas and I‘d been thinking about some thermal mugs in their favorite colors. One likes pink and one likes purple. It suddenly dawned on me that I know how to crochet 🤦🏼♀️ and I like it! (cont)⬇️
I started this book for November‘s #AuthorAMonth. Maybe at another time of year or if I were in a different frame of mind I‘d be able to finish it. It‘s all a little too surreal for me. Going to see 2001: A Space Odyssey starring Clint Eastwood and Yul Brynner??! I listened for over two hours and I just can‘t. I understand that the author is going to try to make us think about something in a different way, but I don‘t feel like it.
Molly Harper does paranormal romance better than most. I loved her Mystic Bayou series!! This is the first book in the Starfall Point series and I believe it is going to be just as good. But no one hits a home run all the time and I really couldn‘t get into Nice Girls Don‘t Have Fangs, her first book in the Half-Moon Hollow series. That‘s a book I couldn‘t finish so I never continued the series. But Witches Get Stuff Done is FUN!!
The people in this unnamed town are odd. I‘m waiting for some sort of hint as to what‘s going on. There‘s nearly 20 hours of total listening. I‘m not sure I can manage this. #AuthorAMonth
I joined the inaugural #ClassicLSFBC #BuddyRead with this selection. I finished it yesterday but I‘m not sure what I think about it. I think its take on teleportation, Jaunting, is unique as far as I am aware. No equipment necessary, just the power of the mind. Gully Foyle begins as an aimless brute, but because of his abandonment by the Vorga some part of him is awakened by his thirst for vengeance. This is the catalyst that causes him (cont)⬇️
I had a difficult time getting going with this for some reason. But I joined #LotRChapterADay #FellowshipOfTolkien and I made considerably better progress. The narrator, Rob Inglis, is able to create a distinction between all the different characters, a tough enough job when there‘s a cast of thousands, but he sings every song.
I took a screenshot of the #SundayBuddyRead2024 list back when it was first posted on Litsy. But only just now have I made a close examination at what‘s coming up for next year and I‘m very excited. Plus, three of the books currently are included with my Audible subscription and only one book, Memoirs of a Dutiful Daughter, is not available in audio format. Depending on my ability to focus on the printed word, I may (cont)⬇️
I remember being required to read what I think was a short story. I don‘t believe it was an excerpt of anything. I think it was when I was in college. We won‘t mention that makes it more than 40 years ago. I seem to recall that there was a man who worked in the boiler room or something on a cruise ship. There was a female passenger who saw him, maybe she fell or dropped something and he tried to help her, maybe he encountered her in some (cont) ⬇️
I just started listening to this a couple of hours ago. Is anyone else from #ClassicLSFBC listening? And for those reading this in print, does your version include the introduction “Of Time, and Gully Foyle” by Neil Gaiman? Gaiman is a fine writer and he has a wonderful voice, but he is not narrating his intro, and that‘s a disappointment. The method of teleportation Bester has created is innovative and has captured my imagination.
I don‘t think I realized how many Italians were Jewish until I began this book. I‘m trying to figure out what that says about me. Any book about Jews in World War II is going to be sad and will refer to the atrocities perpetrated by the Nazis. The main character comes very close to despair on different occasions, but manages to remain hopeful in spite of the horrific events she experiences. #LiteraryCrew
This was an intriguing story about a family dealing with grief. I didn‘t particularly care for the narrator until I realized she sounded like a teenager, just like the main character. #Pemberlittens #JaneAdjacent
Binti is a wonderful character! The world building in this series is well done. I love the different people she meets on her journey. She chooses her own path and because she doesn‘t prioritize marriage and babies she is called selfish. Modern day humanity has a long way to go to avoid this trap. This is one of the books I selected to read for the September #AuthorAMonth but RL got in the way.
I enjoyed this book very much. But lately I‘ve been listening to a number of books in which the protagonist feels like something they‘ve done has caused catastrophic events. “It‘s all because of me.” In Binti‘s case her family and friends believe so too. Binti is brave, proud, and ambitious. The ambition is what makes her family so angry and resentful. They call her selfish. It‘s the distant future, and her people still believe (cont)⬇️
Wow. I haven‘t been reading enough science fiction. This was excellent and I definitely want to read more from this author. #LitsySciFiBookClub
This article appeared in the July 7, 2023 edition of The Guardian. A scholar has found several stories that may have been written by Louisa May Alcott.

I think the world building for this new series is even more exciting than with the first series. While listening to Magic Claims, it seemed like my eyes just got bigger and bigger with each new development. If you are a fan of the first Kate Daniels series, you should run, RUN to add Magic Tides and Magic Claims to your library. So much fun! All the ⭐️✨🌟💫🌠☄️🤩
The bundle that I have is not available in the database. This is a review of Magic Tides and is my selection for November #TBRTarot, #ABookWithAPersonOnTheCover. Kate and Curran are back! I said goodbye to these characters but Ilona Andrews has brought them back and now they and their more-than-precocious son have moved to Wilmington, NC, where they are “keeping a low profile.” But Kate has agreed to rescue a kidnapped child. Good-bye low profile.
Has anyone read this book? I‘m listening to the audiobook for a group discussion and I had to stop, and returned it to Audible. I don‘t mean to be disrespectful of the author, but she should not be narrating anything. Her voice is not suited to it. So I‘m trying to decide if I want to spend the money to buy a print copy. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
This was a good mystery/ghost story. The mystery had a surprising “culprit,” and I didn‘t think the ghost story was particularly scary. But that‘s just me. I would recommend this book and wouldn‘t object to reading more books by Simone St. James, the October #AuthorAMonth .
#lotrchapteraday #fellowshipoftolkien. Is anyone else listening to the audiobook? I know there are new editions narrated by Andy Serkis but I have been listening to The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings as narrated by Rob Inglis since before the new editions were released. My favorite part of Mr. Inglis‘s narration is that he sings all the songs beautifully. 🎼🎶 I‘d like to know if Andy Serkis sings also, if anyone is listening to his edition.
This moves back and forth between the perspectives of two different people at two different points in time, 1982 and 2017. In 1982 the character just found some papers printed by a ditto machine. A ditto machine! I haven‘t heard that term in so long. I had completely forgotten about them. Listening to the book and hearing those words made my brain kind of go “boing!” How many people have read this book and not (cont) ⬇️
I enjoyed this one, but I‘m not sure I like the ending. I know that some people believe it would be great to live forever, but I‘m not one of them. If you‘ve ever watched The Good Place, then you know how it ends. That‘s what I‘d like for myself.
And here is what I‘ve done so far. I just hope I remember how to cross stitch because I haven‘t done any work on any cross stitch projects in over three years. #LitsyCrafters
I tried using Pic Collage for the first time so I could show #LitsyCrafters what my cross stitch project is supposed to look like when it‘s finished and where I am so far. Alas, it doesn‘t seem intuitive to me and what I produced went in the trash. But here‘s what it‘s supposed to look like when it‘s finished.
I have the book but I haven‘t started it yet. But this is how I remember the ceremony.
I enjoyed this retelling of Norse mythology. I‘m more familiar with Greek myths, so I didn‘t know the basis for much of the origins of this book, but I don‘t think it lessened my enjoyment. The narrator didn‘t differentiate between characters as much as I would have preferred, and I question the narrator‘s choice of accents. But the narrator didn‘t detract too much from my experience. (cont) ⬇️
Just finished 32 hours of JK Rowling. It was definitely a mystery to me and I did enjoy it. I have another library hold for the next book in the series that‘s about to come in but I canceled it. I need a break. Maybe next year.
The first book in this series was released in September 2015. I think sometime between then and now there was some legal wrangling that kept any more books in the series from being published. But don‘t hold me to that because I could be remembering it wrong. But in September 2023 this novella was released and in November there will be a complete novel. Benedict is one of my favorite characters and he is the focus of this fast-paced story.
What‘s a young lady with a scientific mind to do? Make her own way in the world, of course.
I‘ve had most of this series in my Audible library for several years but I‘m only just now getting around to listening to it. I found it enjoyable for the most part. Riots in the streets are actually pretty scary. I have a question for my friends in the #LitsySciFiBookClub and for anyone else who cares to offer an opinion. Is Steam Punk science fiction or fantasy? I‘m of the opinion that it is science fiction.
I like reading and discussing books with my friends on Litsy. I completely understand that no one is forcing me to participate in buddy reads. Everyone says that the buddy reads I‘ve signed up for are laid back, no pressure. I think that‘s great! I guess the only reason I‘m feeling overwhelmed is because I‘m not very good at laid back, no pressure. So please, keep me in your tag lists about new books and discussions. I just need (cont) ⬇️
I enjoyed this book very much. Whodunit was much easier to figure out than in the first book in the series. The author seemed like she was wrapping up everyone‘s stories for the last time. At the same time it seemed she was setting the stage for future books. The ending was somewhat unsatisfying because it left Jonathan and Juliet with questions about how the other felt. But it was fairly certain that they knew their own minds and hearts.(cont)⬇️
I listened to this as the September selection for the #LitsySciFiBookClub but I didn‘t finish until October 1st. Oh, well. I am so glad I listened to this book! It was entertaining and compelling. The narrator WAS Ryland Grace. And he is one of the few male narrators, probably the best I‘ve heard, who does women‘s voices well. Run to your library or book store and pick up this book now, if you haven‘t already. I‘m behind most of you.
@TheAromaofBooks I overcommitted to too many buddy reads for September and I don‘t want to make the same mistake in October. So I‘ve decided to opt out #TheScarletLetter, although I‘d still like to remain on the tag list so I can read the snarky hashtags and find out what others think and feel about the story of Hester Prynne and her daughter Pearl. #RandomClassics
I enjoyed this very much for #AuthorAMonth. Binti is a Master Harmonizer, she sees beauty in numbers. She sees the world around her in numbers, so she sees the beauty all around. When she encounters an alien race for the first time she is harmonizing a peace between them and humanity. I listened to this in audio format and the narrator‘s voice was especially lovely.
It seemed to start off a little slow, but then it picked up so I kept listening. This is the first book I‘ve listened to narrated by Wil Wheaton and I wasn‘t exactly sure how I‘d react to a story read by Wesley Crusher. But he did a good job. I could tell which character he was voicing when he spoke, which I believe is vital when listening to a book. Down with books narrated by AI! Enjoy folks! Now back to our regularly scheduled reading.
#HashtagBrigade I wanted to love this, since I loved the first three books by Forster that I‘ve read. And sometimes I did love it. The language is lush and beautiful. The descriptions of the Hindu and Muslim faiths were entrancing. The prejudices of the different races and religions were very apparent. Except I‘ve never understood racism and religionism. The exchange between Aziz and Mrs. Moore in the mosque and the exchange between (cont)⬇️
I‘m signed up for a number of buddy reads and I‘m having a difficult time keeping track of them. So I‘m going to list as many as I can, along with the host. Please help me add any In which I‘ve shown an interest or I may have forgotten.
I had no idea there were so many #JaneAdjacent books until just this month! My true confession is that I‘ve read about half of Pride and Prejudice and that‘s pretty much it. I had a terrible time keeping track of all the characters in The Murder of Mr. Wickham. So I‘ll make every effort to take care of catching up with Jane Austen‘s books while still enjoying as many #JaneAdjacent as possible.
This book was a delight. And the killer was not someone I would have predicted. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟#PemberLittens #JaneAdjacent
This book was delightful. It was so wonderful listening to Sadie change, not just the way she saw the world, but how she felt about it. In the author's afterward and acknowledgements, I'm not sure if she uses the word kindness, but that was the overall message this book gave me. I give it ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 6 stars out of 5.
I enjoyed this mystery and its lessons on the history (and, wow, what a history) of chocolate. I didn‘t really buy the romance, though. It didn‘t build, it just sort of happened near the end of the book. I probably will listen to the second entry in this series, The Cocoa Conspiracy, because I enjoy a good mystery and I want to hear more about the history of chocolate.🍫
This isn‘t the type of book I usually read or listen to, but I‘m really glad that I took the time for this one. I described it to a friend as Die Hard meets Designated Survivor meets MacGyver. This was just so much fun! Yes, it‘s violent and bad things happen, but I‘m pretty much in love with the protagonist (hero?), Dez.
Look what I‘m doing, y‘all. 🙌
