This one was okay. The pacing was choppy/slow, and a lot of the character motivations just didn't work for me. I also get annoyed whenever I hear the “if you don't want the government tracking/checking your every move you're obviously a criminal“ argument: it's simply not true. It was a fun concept, but the execution just didn't quite work for me.
Very weird to go back in the history of this book to look over my first review and realize I highlighted a couple of the same quotes almost a year later. 😅 Upon reread of book and review, I honestly don't think I can say it better than I did, or have much to add. I think I can acknowledge some pacing issues in the second half, balancing mystery with an increasingly gripping pace against multiple dense story lines, but overall still impressive.
Value-added grandfather-ing. ☺️ Excellent philosophy for nightmares.
Okay, that DOES sound like a good time. Support artists, enjoy a new experience! 😉🤭
Well, this was a terrifying read for my sociopolitical theme. Kashmir Hill is a NYT journalist investigating Clearview AI. This facial recognition platform claims a 98.6% accuracy rate, with over 50 billion facial profiles, harvested from all public websites.
Highly recommended as it's important we realise what these companies are doing and the consequences of their product.
Big finance and big tech already control access to digital money but nothing will satisfy those in power until they have total control. Interesting book! I listened to the audiobook.
