⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Loved this on audio! The harrowing story of the rescue of 12 boys and their soccer coach from a cave in Thailand. Also learned quite a bit about Thai culture and cave diving and exploration. Highly recommend.

This book for me was so-so everything was everywhere in this book one happy scene than it would quickly switch to a intense scene. I'd still read it when I get bored for nostalgic reasons 6/10 for me.

For the people who have read this book you'll understand.

Finishing this reminded me that I haven‘t posted my #bookspin list for the month. Whoops! My co-worker recommended this as a potential book to use with our 5th graders. Beautifully written, fantastic characters and development. Amongst all that a lot of deeper rooted concepts to unpack. Fantastic imagery, fantastic story.

I felt like the overall story is under developed, but it is decent overall.

It's a bit late, but I got hold of #Thai classic Les nobles (possibly published in English under the titles A person of Good Quality or Noblesse oblige), about an impoverished upper-class woman who becomes head of her extended household at the age of 21, with all the responsibilities and worries that it entails. It has a strong Victorian feel for a 1937 novel, but in a very Thai and buddhist context.

I‘ve had this book and the vegetarian companion for many years. Highly recommend because the recipes are easy & straightforward.

Nancies‘s recipe taught me how to make Tom Yum with homemade roasted chili paste. I used to make it religiously every Friday night. Alas, though not as tasty, I‘ve discovered the ease of commercial Tom Yum pastes.

I have a request for fried rice tonight. 😋

This was a fun middle grade adventure and coming of age story set in a Thai inspired fantasy setting. The adventure consists of seafaring and exploring distant places with dashes of fantasy through sea dragons. I enjoyed the strong female characters and the theme of earning your place over inheriting it. Though the characters deal with conflict and danger, it all works out perfectly in the end.

My fiction pick for #foodandlit 🇹🇭 this month...there is a common parent-child relationship theme in all of them. They offer a sad look at some of Thailand's most prominent social issues, well-written and touching.
I would have preferred a more balanced view, it's important not to gloss over things, but I'm sure there are happy stories worth telling, too.

A semi-autobiographical coming of age story set in #Thailand.

The main character “Justin” lives with his aunts and servants, and refuses to speak his native tongue. After his pet chameleon dies he decides to become a chameleon himself, learning his language, eating Thai food, and making friends.

Overall I enjoyed this, but there is a lot about discovering sex, and the MCs are 12/13 which made it a bit uncomfortable at times…
