To Die For | David Baldacci
post image
Pickpick

David Baldacci has done it again! “To Die For“ is a gripping thriller that kept me on the edge of my seat from beginning to end. The plot is intricate and fast-paced, with twists and turns that I never saw coming. Baldacci's writing is, as always, top-notch. He has a knack for creating complex and compelling characters that you can't...

Very Bad Thing | J T Ellison

This story sucks you in quickly and spits you out at the end of the wild ride. The characters are distinctly different, and their backstories are well defined. I guessed a few things and thought I figured out more but was turned around a few times and surprised till the very end.

4.25⭐
• This was an emotional read but lacked the punch to make it a true gut punch. It was good but lacked something that could‘ve made it great; so I liked it a lot but didn't quite love it. Ask For Andrea is still my fav, although this one is probably my second favorite by this author.
• Will Damron & Megan Tusing both give good performances.

I participated in another Back Room author event graciously hosted by Hank Phillippi Ryan and Karen Dionne. There were engaging conversations with authors Tracy Clark, J.T. Ellison, Jessica Strawser, and Stephanie Wrobel. I wrote about my experience on my blog.

What a way to close out my official "spooky reads" season! This book is eerie, creepy and a total Gothic mood, but with all good stories like this, the overarching theme is one that transcends the scary. This locked room mystery touches on topics of abuse, misogyny, gaslighting, and sexual assault, allowing the readers to understand not only what the main character is going through, but the women of the past who battled these same demons.

Quick YA read set in a remote setting. I liked that I was led to believe one thing and people weren‘t who I thought. I was invested in a short time. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Where There's Smoke | E B Vickers

Vickers does a remarkable job blending together the characters, settings, and subplots in this mystery. 18 yo Callie has just lost her dad when she finds a young girl hiding near her home. The girl is forlorn, lost, burned and disheveled; and not verbal. Calli calls her Ash.

Last Seen Online | Lauren James
Mehso-so

Lauren James‘s standalone YA thriller is very strong on fame, fandoms and toxic fan behaviour but the murder aspect was under-powered for me with the villain too easy to guess and a final twist that didn‘t ring true. At the same time, Delilah‘s backstory was too busy and a sub-plot involving her best friend Nida feeling superfluous. That said, it is a fast-paced read and James has something to say so I would check out her next book.

This was a good read. Louise Candlish is great at creating morally corrupt characters. None of them are likeable and it makes for interesting reading!
