Standing Dead is book 8 in the Timber Creek series. The author knows about police procedures and K9
teams. The story line is good. The characters have depth. There is action keeping the reader interested in what will happen next. This book can be read as a stand alone book without feeling as if you‘re missing something. 4/5

This was an easy novel to figure out early while reading it. I felt by the fourth chapter I knew where it was headed. I almost put it down. I‘m glad to say I continued and I enjoyed the remainder of it. The characters were not very people I would want to spend time with. A couple of twists weren‘t expected. I gave it a 4/5

Unseen | Karin Slaughter
Pickpick

The 7th. Pom of the Will Trent series. Karin Slaughter has a way to take some “damaged” people and assist her readers in finding are really bad and taking other characters and helping them find some goodness deep inside. Parts of her novel are pretty vicious. Some topics could trigger negative emotions in readers. Sexual violence is present. 4.25/5

Two young gay men, one black and one white are murdered. Neither father was accepting of the lifestyles of their married sons. The fathers unite while seeking justice for their sons. The novel is full of violence in this novel but I liked it. Much of the violence was a bit over the top but love is love and the color of one‘s skin shouldn‘t matter, I gave this book a 4.25/5

The Guilty Couple | C.L. Taylor

A fast paced psychological thriller. The novel has lots of twists I didn‘t expect. The wife is in prison for a crime she didn‘t commit. When she‘s released she plans a way to try to prove her innocence and be able to have her daughter live with her again. Who‘s the worst problem: her husband, her personal trainer/police officer or her best friend? I gave it a 4/5 rating.

This thriller to place in Australia. The characters were not particularly endearing. The story was far fetched and had a fast pace. I did want to know how it would end. Mental health issues were evident from almost the very beginning. 3.5/5

Wow, this novel wasn‘t a favorite of mine. Two very different families are thrown together in a world that is colliding together. The given facts and explanations of things occurring seem far fetched yet in some ways possible in the world we currently live in. I feel COVID may have assisted in my own thoughts of a potential future this unusual, leaving the reader hanging on to what? Sanity or insanity! 3.5/5

The fifth book in the Detective Steele series. The main characters are present and there many traits I like. The story has lots of details included to add personality of the individuals. Of course, there are a couple of murders and the suspects with possible motives are present. Ms. Arnold keeps the reader interested and the clues add up. The “whodunnit” wasn‘t who I expected. 4/5

This is a novel takes place mostly in the desert southwest. Having spent time there I know many of the places. I can relate to at least the land. I love the stories from/of the indigenous peoples. The Curse of Penryth Hall | Jess Armstrong
Pickpick

This gothic historical fiction novel was different from what I expected. Ruby Vaughan works for a book seller. She‘s asked to deliver a trunk of books to a man in Cornish. The man seems to be sort of a male witch (called a Pellar.) He makes salves and other concoctions which help people/animals recover when sick. The countryside is beautiful but a killer looms in the area. I enjoyed the book. 3.75/5

As the lies and secrets were uncovered, I found it strange how many people just closed their eyes and mouths to the facts. Eli was strange in many ways (I don‘t mean his being gay.) His statements were so varied from one account to the next with the death of his wife and son. I read this with an open mind but feel that Gregg Olsen has figured this out. I gave it a 3.5/5

I really enjoyed The book of Charlie. I believe Charlie enjoyed life even when things weren‘t perfect. He figured out how to be successful in life after the untimely and tragic death of his father. He seemed to find ways to work for his goals. I almost felt as if I knew Charlie by the end of his life. If you‘re looking for a very good true story of a remarkable man, you won‘t be disappointed. 4.5/5

A well written historical fiction set in the 7th century. Three monks leave Ireland to find an island without any people so they can live without any negative worldly influence. Train and Cormac are very likable men. Artt is more unlikely to be by the two other monks. Silent Witness is the third in the series with Detective Amanda Steele. I would say this is the best so far. Being a thriller, there are murders with unexpected twists to keep the reader wondering what will happen next. A small girl is orphaned when her parents are murdered in their home. Corruption can run deeply and costs much damage. I enjoyed this page turner and gave it a 4.5/5

This was a very touching historical fiction novel. Most of the characters were very likable. Imagine growing up in the south as an indentured child whose parents died on voyage from Ireland. The novel takes many turns and life isn‘t very easy for anyone living in the late 1700s and early 1800s. I found the story held my attention and I wanted to find out what happened. The first novel in the series with Detective Jo Fournier. The mystery introduces us to the a single man who is a serial killer. There are unusual twists along the way. I kept turning the pages hoping he would be caught…..

I have enjoyed the Amish series by Linda Castillo. I find them to be good for a more lighthearted read. This one, went deeper into the evils in an Amish community. Most of the characters are respectful people. This novel has some darker and more evil elements. It‘s a medium paced book with a couple of murders. I thought I had figured out who the murder was—no there were twists I hadn‘t figured out. 4:5 star

This novel has issues which could trigger emotions because young girls are being trafficked by sexual predators. This is the second in a series by Carolyn Arnold. I will read more of these books. I have it 4/5 star rating.

This was a cozy/type mystery. The location as well as the baking show aspect was the reason I chose this book. The contestants were unique. They arrived at the Grafton House, in Vermont where the cook off was to take place. Chapters focused on one player at a time. Of course, there was a murder. Contestants were sabotaged. There were twists and turns. It you are a fan of cozy mysteries, I think you will enjoy it.

John Irving definitely had a plan when he wrote this novel. I was intrigued by the title and the plot. It has more religious overtones than I expected. I found some of the characters quite interesting. I laughed in certain situations and felt tears in my eyes in others. Owen and Johnny were best friends and I respected their bond. The chapters carried on forever! I will remember the VW and headmaster story for a long time. I gave a 4.5/5 rating

This story broke my heart time and time again. I can‘t imagine anyone treating an innocent child with such disrespect. How anyone could continue to beat a toddler and do this daily for many, many years, is beyond my understanding. I found it of interest that there was a society to prevent cruelty to animals before there was one for children. I would rated it a 4/5. I learned a considerable amount about a part of history I had‘nt heard of before.
