This tense mystery built its way to a high rating from me and then tore itself down. Read my full review here: https://debbybrauer.org/#two-nights-in-lisbon

Vansa I absolutely loved this book.I found it timely, and gripping, and I felt the sexual assault scenes were not gratuitous at all. They actually aren't described in a voyeuristic way,and you get a sense of the female protagonist's horror and shock.Additionally, sexual assault is not used as a catalyst for a man's trauma. The thriller aspects were edge of the seat, and the author switches genres beautifully.(1/n) 2y
Vansa Also, what he's writing about is so pervasive.Unlike a lot of books that seem to throw in sexual assault for titillation or merely shock value( both My absolute darling and A little life),this book emphasises the survival, and systemic difficulties part.(n/n) 2y
JoyBlue I'm back on this post because this book was recommended to someone for their book club elsewhere, without regard to the seeker's parameters. I want to reiterate my points on the issue of how sexual assault is handled in this book. What may not be upsetting to some will be *very* upsetting to others. This book is likely to trigger victims of sexual assault. If you are choosing for others, this is not a good candidate. Please be mindful. 9mo
