#MiddleGradeMonday Olympic nonfiction edition!

When I saw the prompt was for a book about an athlete, I immediately thought of the books about Jim Thorpe and Simone Biles on my nonfiction shelf. Then I realized I have books about these other two Olympic gold medalists as well.

I‘m tagging Undefeated as it‘s the only one I‘ve actually read myself and it‘s a fantastic book.

Karisimo These are great! I have read Simone Biles‘s book! Thanks for posting!! 3mo

#Olympics24 I know they are not book related but there are so many stories, so many moments of triumph and heartbreak. I love it all.

Please feel free to add your comments about the Olympics. I will post any comments with results under a spoiler so as not to ruin anything before you have a chance to watch.

Deblovestoread Watching Stephen Nedoroscik triumph on the pommel horse brought tears to my eyes. USA men‘s clinch a bronze medal 🙌🏼 3mo
Susanita I‘m enjoying the sports I don‘t typically watch otherwise: rugby, cycling, etc. 3mo
Kitta As a former gymnast myself, I‘m loving the gymnastics coverage! I could never dream of doing what they can but it‘s fantastic to watch. I even got up at 5:30 am on Sunday to catch it live. 3mo

Deblovestoread @Susanita Same! Been enjoying the equestrian events and water polo, too. 3mo
Deblovestoread @Kitta The gymnastics, swimming and diving are my favorites. 3mo
bthegood @Deblovestoread same here - mens gymnastics fantastic - watching gymnastics and swimming (men and women) - my favorite summer sports to watch and it's been fun this year to watch with grandson (who takes gymnastics class and is in swim lessons) - 🤸 3mo
Kitta Same! The diving is incredible. Especially the synchronized diving. And I like watching swimming too. For women‘s gymnastics, Rebeca Andrade (Brazil) is going to compete a new vault that‘s never been done at the Olympics before so keep an eye out for that! 3mo
MemoirsForMe I love it all! Gymnastics, swimming, cycling, fencing, beach volleyball. The kayak rafting was so cool! I love the camaraderie and when several countries and athletes win their first-ever medal. And yes, I‘ve been crying a lot of happy tears. 3mo

4 ⭐This is the type of biography for children that I wish “Little People Big World“ would write. This book happens to be about Minda Dentler. She was the first disabled woman to compete and win an Iron Man world championship. This story starts with how Minda lost the use of her legs, which was polio, and how she was adopted and came to the states, and how her parents always told her she could do anything as long as she could figure it out.

LibrarianRyan It was that tenacity that helped Minda never shy away from doing something she loved. The readers see and feel that love in the pages of this book. Not only is the story interesting and joyous, the illustrations are just as fun and give a vibrancy that makes someone want to keep turning the pages and read this more than once. 10mo

#AutumnPlease! Day 24: #WorldPolioDay reminded me of Wilma Rudolph, Olympic champion and world‘s fastest woman, who suffered from polio as a child. Ever since she was a baby, Wilma had always been sickly, weighing only a little over four pounds at birth. Yet despite this, she remains a sprightly young girl who preferred jumping and running to simply walking. My review: https://wp.me/pDlzr-7uT
