Edver lives in Miami with his mom, but she sends him to Cuba for the summer to get to know his dad, and meet the sister he didn‘t know he had! Luza is 1 year older and lives a much more different life than Edver. Their differences morph into common goals, in their efforts to keep Cuban forests magical. MG novel in verse

TheRiehlDeal Agree to disagree. There are those who don‘t care about this planet and those who do. For those who don‘t, can go to Mars. 14mo

Apologies if I've added to your tbr pile. 🙈 Here's my selection of books for voting by the 19th. Starting with the top of the pile, 1 is The Last Wilderness and so on. The tagged book is for 4 - Rewilding

I'm really excited to see everyone's book selections over the week. And then we vote!

Just finished this nonfiction book about the rainforest with my class… they enjoyed it and loved learning about all of the animals that live there! #teachersoflitsy

I liked this — the text emphasizes importance of natural and native landscapes & has many gorgeous photos with an extensive plant index. *But* it emphasizes mid-Atlantic states such as mine (both authors are local to me), and the plant lists don‘t indicate whether they‘re likely to be deer-proof. That last part is particularly important for us. At right of this photo, see almost no understory below the tall trees due to over-grazing by deer.

ValerieAndBooks @Lynnsoprano here‘s what I think of this one! 3y
Lynnsoprano It doesn‘t sound as if it‘s for me; thanks for thinking of me! I actually have two gardening books specifically for Florida on order. One is on Florida wildflowers and the other about butterfly gardening. I‘ll post when I get them. 3y
ValerieAndBooks @Lynnsoprano yes, the other books by Doug Tallamy (one you have already) are a better fit for you. This one is much more regional focused. I look forward to your posts on your incoming books! 3y

@Lynnsoprano look — we just got this book 😊. Should give us some ideas for our property!

Finally finished the winter scene puzzle in the background! It was harder than it seemed. Next up is one called “houseplant jungle” ☺️

Lynnsoprano That looks so good! Onto the TBR it goes 😄 I need to post a picture of the butterfly garden I‘ve started. 3y
ValerieAndBooks @Lynnsoprano would love to see your butterfly garden! I‘ll let you know what I think of this book — examples seems to lean heavily towards those in mid-Atlantic states. 3y
Suet624 That puzzle looks super hard!! 3y
ValerieAndBooks @Suet624 yes it was harder than I expected. All the snow and tree branches, I guess! The top part is cut off in the picture but is all bare tree branches. (edited) 3y

Protection of Global Biodiversity: Converging Strategies | Lakshman D. Guruswamy, Jeffrey A. McNeely

I‘m currently reading a collection of essays regarding conservation/restoration of #biodiversity and the pictured quote spoke to me. Ecosystems are invaluable and we need to protect them.

#Prairies (the ecosystem pictured) provide habitat for all kinds of organism as well as act as carbon sinks. It‘s because of all the carbon in the soil that makes them valuable for agriculture.

Getting back into the swing of doing a #bookreport again! Completed a lot more graphic novels than I planned, and had 2 great audiobooks in the mix. DNF the roxy letters (if I did it would be a hate read, and I just wasn‘t up for that this week). All in all an ok week! Now I just need to really start focusing on all of my unfinished books lying around the homestead, lol.
