This novel weaves together the stories of 2 generations of Afghan young women, set apart by 100 years in a war-torn country, their plights almost identical and both share the same courage and optimism. 👇
erzascarletbookgasm It explores the tradition of ‘bacha posh‘, where girls are allowed to wear male clothes, adopt boys' names & enjoy privileges accorded to boys until they reach puberty. In a society where women's lives were so constricted under the Taliban that they couldn't even walk unescorted down the street, these girls enjoyed their freedom posing as boys. The protagonist enjoyed this freedom till she was forced to marry a warlord at age 13. (edited) 6y
