JUNIE is one of those books that practically reads itself. I feel like I‘ve hardly spent any time with it, yet I‘m already a hundred pages in. Knight‘s prose is deep and evocative without being performative, and her dialogue gives each character a strong voice. I can‘t wait to read on.
pickA collection of mini essays about life in a city, local activism, improv, and charades. It has left me longing for the time to do more improv classes. I did an improv course a few years ago and it was great fun, like being back in drama at school.
I'm snacking on some beef jerky for #Elevenses while reading the tagged book. It's not Middle-Grade like I thought, but it is funny, and since it's a quick read, I'll probably finish it by lunch, if not sooner. #readathon
The physical part of my all-Middle Grade #TBR stack for the #readathon tomorrow. I'll also be reading some Ebooks and listening to at least one audiobook, probably How to Be a Pirate (the 2nd book in the How to Train Your Dragon series by Cressida Cowell), which is narrated by David Tennant.
pickA beautifully written story of a young woman coming of age in the 1930's in Vancouver's East End. Exploring the relationships between mothers and daughters, the bonds of friendship, community, an artist's view of the world around her, and a young woman discovering the colours and textures of love. You can tell Knight is a poet, the way she crafts a sentence is an utter delight. She has created a vibrant world to be celebrated.

pickAn excellent novel about the coming-of-age of a Black artist in 1930s Vancouver and her complicated relationship with her mama.
pickA wonderfully unusual book. Pain, curiosity, family and loneliness with a smattering of “objects”. Couldn‘t put it down.
