Something a little bit lighter for before bed. 🧠food from my audible tbr library🤓🎧📖

The recurring themes of this book are that the performer and listener are just as important as the composer and that what music does is more important that what music is. These approaches are more easily generalisable beyond the Western musical canon (an idea that is very bound up with the 19th century) into music from other cultures and into different traditions and types of music within Western culture.

Just from the intro and first chapter, I know this is not the book for me. It is academic but not in a good way. I was hoping for more of a love letter to music listening, but feels more like PhD dissertation.

I bought these cds back in the nineties and I haven't listened to them in a long time. It really is nice classical background music.
