Pickpick

British mariners had latitude figured pretty early on, but longitude flummoxed them to the point of shipwrecks and lost lives occurring because they just didn‘t know where they were. This book talks about the efforts to fix longitude and the machinations of the organization created when someone finally did so. If you‘re looking for an excellent, short narrative nonfiction book, look no further. #ReadYourEbooks

(Continued)...translucent muddy water at one end and an opaque pale green at the other. This effect can be caused by plant matter or algae near the surface of the puddle being blown to one end by a prevailing wind.

(Continued)...path, the incline and growth on the southern side of the track will cast a shadow on the southern part of the track itself. Moisture is retained, puddles last longer.

(Continued)...may be a wind direction reversal to a land breeze as the day ends and the night cool draws in. "I can smell the sea" becomes "I suspect that I know what the wind and water are doing!"

Mehso-so

Too simple and short. I enjoyed the concept of dividing the human-nature connection into easily digestible parts the author used, but each needed more details. The tone of the book was a bit condescending. I suppose this is for “nature beginners”: either children or people who‘ve rarely been outside would benefit from this. Though I did learn a few things, so it wasn‘t all bad! I listened to the audio on hoopla with less-than-stellar narration.
