RaeLovesToRead I really shouldn't take such an enthusiastic interest in your piles. 1y

RaeLovesToRead But what are friends for? 🤷🏼‍♀️😘 1y
CBee @The_Penniless_Author who is the kitty in your new pic? ♥️ 1y
The_Penniless_Author @CBee That's Linus. Sophie was the one in my previous pic, but I figured since it's been more than a year, and since my daughter managed to take a picture that made him look like a cartoon, it was time to give Linus his moment in the sun 😁 1y
The_Penniless_Author @RaeLovesToRead You ever going to read anything in those piles? 🤨 1y
The_Penniless_Author @RaeLovesToRead Oh wait, you can't! You need to read my books first! 🙂 1y
CBee @The_Penniless_Author Linus is lovely 😊 1y
jlhammar Loved The Lonely Passion of Judith Hearne. So good! 1y
The_Penniless_Author @CBee He's a photogenic guy, even when not making ridiculous faces a centimeter from the camera lens 😂 1y
The_Penniless_Author @jlhammar Agreed. I think it's a top-ten book for me. 1y
CBee @The_Penniless_Author I‘ll have to scroll your page to find more pics of him! 1y
The_Penniless_Author @CBee You have to go back a ways, but they're there (including one from the holidays where he got really excited about a cat advent calendar we got him from Trader Joe's 😂). 1y
CBee @The_Penniless_Author oh my gosh - I have to look immediately!! 😍😍😍 1y

The Diving Bell and the Butterfly | Jean-Dominique Bauby
post image

Ok, this is going to be tricky, because I own a good deal of books...

- True Grit (#randyspiles)
- The Spy who came in from the Cold (also #randyspiles)
- The Woman who would be King
- The Diving Bell and the Butterfly
- The Stranger

Thanks for the tag @The_Penniless_Author 🙃💕

The_Penniless_Author Are my piles more theoretical piles, since you don't seem to own any of the books? 😂 2y
RaeLovesToRead @The_Penniless_Author Excuuuuuse me! I have 8 out of 10 of the books you have highlighted in the alphabet challenge 😁😁😁 That's 4 out of 5... 80%... how many of mine are you even thinking about reading 🤔🤔 2y
The_Penniless_Author Have you been doing the alphabet challenge? 🤔 2y
RaeLovesToRead @The_Penniless_Author I love how you pretend you haven't been hitting refresh every 5 mins every Monday, wondering what I'm going to pick... 😉 2y
The_Penniless_Author I love to give you what you love 🥰 2y

Stay Up With Me | Tom Barbash
post image

Here are some books from my shelf that I hope to get to soon...

I have no idea what Stay Up With Me is about, but it has one of my favourite covers of any book ever.

CJ Sansom is an absolute favourite of mine. I need to prioritise this series.

A couple of these (Vonnegut, Ishiguro) are Randy picks @The_Penniless_Author #randyspiles

I loved the Sisters' Brothers and have heard nothing but good things about the next Dewitt.

Murakami ❤

MicheleinPhilly The Remains of the Day! *swoon* 🥰 2y
RaeLovesToRead @MicheleinPhilly I just want to read them all at once! Right now! 😊💕 2y
Ruthiella I‘ve also really enjoyed the Shardlake series. I still have the last one to read. 2y

RaeLovesToRead @Ruthiella They are amazing... I think that's why I'm taking so long with them... I'm "saving" them ? 2y

The Buried Giant: A novel | Kazuo Ishiguro
post image
Pickpick

After only a chapter or two, I fully expected a pretentious, whimsical, moralising parable.

What I got instead was a quietly enchanting story about a husband and wife travelling through the misty plains of the dark ages, meeting characters and creatures along the way.

Themes of memory, forgiveness, loyalty and revenge weave themselves through the simple story imbuing it with both meaning and ambiguity.

⭐⭐⭐⭐

HeyT Some days I just can't handle how cute Pickles is! 😻 2y
vivastory This sounds fantastic 2y
Ruthiella I loved this slow, contemplative novel too. It also asks big questions about who‘s the outsider, who‘s the hero, etc. that I appreciated thinking about. 2y

BarbaraBB Great review. I enjoyed this one too. 2y
RaeLovesToRead @HeyT @Liz_M She is a cutie pie 💕🐈 2y
RaeLovesToRead @vivastory I suspect you'd like it, Scott! Have you read any Ishiguro? 2y
RaeLovesToRead @Ruthiella What a beautiful way of putting it! Yes! Who is the hero / who is the outsider... that's something the book does remarkably well 😊 2y
RaeLovesToRead @BarbaraBB Thanks, Barbara! 🙂💕 2y
vivastory I have! I have read 3 books by Ishiguro: Never Let Me G0 (one of my favorites of all time), Klara & the Sun (disappointing, but I oddly can't forget it) & Artist of the Floating World (I recall finding it interesting when I read it. In retrospect it is my least fave of the 3) 2y
RaeLovesToRead @vivastory The only one I'd read before was Never Let Me Go. I gave it 3 stars at the time but the premise has haunted me. I'd like to re-read it some day. It's on my GR Haunting / Memorable shelf (a shelf I made for books that have lingered with me against my expectations). 2y
BarbaraBB @vivastory I don‘t mean to be pushy but you MUST read 2y
Liz_M @vivastory As in all things, @BarbaraBB is right about this ⬆️ 2y
vivastory @BarbaraBB @Liz_M It's on my TBR 👍 2y
