So, back when Oprah started her book club, I was super into it and read quite a few of the first books she chose. This beauty was one of them. Decided to reread it this week and I‘m so glad I did. It‘s still wonderful, and 20 years later (omg I‘m old) it still resonates. Would you believe this is the only Wally Lamb book I‘ve read? 🤦‍♀️

Holy sugar snaps, Batman!! This was seriously so good. A whole gaggle of extremely unlikable people, set mostly on the island of Capri (which has its own unique and horrific history - I‘m looking at you, Tiberius). Plus, not one, but two ending twists that totally blew my mind. Phew 😅

Oh, how I loved this. It‘s described as a part memoir, part natural history, part manifesto (loosely quoted from the interview between the narrator Louise Brealey and the author - a bonus if you listen to the audio). So much beauty packed into a short book, and I wished for more. A favorite of the year thus far, 100%.

My prompt for #TBRtarot ended up being to read a book that‘s been on your Kindle for a while - I believe I grabbed this intending to join a #sundaybuddyread but that didn‘t happen 😂 Anyway, I almost stopped reading after a chapter or two, it just wasn‘t grabbing me, and then it did. Pretty fantastic and important read. @TheBookHippie
