Because I wasn‘t married, I couldn‘t get birth control. I had tried to get birth control after my first baby, but they wouldn‘t let me have it, so I just kept having babies. Black women living in the Hill at that time couldn‘t get birth control from the clinic unless they had the consent of their husbands, and there was no place on the forms for women who didn‘t have husbands.
