Middle Ground in the sequel to Awaken. Maddie‘s trying to keep herself out of trouble by living in L.A with her brother. Maddie and a few of her friends go to a club, people in this club don‘t communicate face-to-face, but through avatars. Maddie does something that gets her put into the detention center. DCs are for kids that drop out of DS and go against DS, they brainwash kids into thinking the worst of the outside world.

The main character Maddie Freemen, lives in a world where mostly everything is done on a computer, and by everything I mean everything. School, dating, friendships, shopping, even groceries are delivered to your house. Her father is the founder of Digital School. Maddie is okay with the digital life, until she meets Justin. Justin enjoys face-to-face interactions, so you could imagine how that affects Maddie.
