Reading two books for March‘s library book club. This one is children‘s fiction so I‘m flying through it. Didn‘t think it would be my kind of book (I am not even remotely interested in football) but the characters are well-drawn and the location has really come alive.

Pickpick

Blasted through this in a day as I‘m confined to bed with illness (with my cats for company) The writing was a little simplistic in places and some of the dialogue was a bit jarring. But this is an amazing story of a very brave lady who has overcome childhood abuse and religious oppression, and gone on to achieve her dreams 7/10

This is the second book I‘ve read from Amazon Prime Reading. There aren‘t many titles available, but as I enjoy true crime I thought I‘d give this a go. It is a very graphic account of one man‘s criminal life, raping and murdering men all over the States (and further) in the early 1900s. Carl Panzram is horrifically violent and elicits very little sympathy. 6/10 fascinating insight into a twisted character.

I‘d been wanting to read this for a long time, having followed the author on Instagram for years. It was warm and funny, but also dived deeply into medical trauma and associated ptsd. My main criticism was that it felt a little rushed towards the end, and I would have liked to have seen photographs included as in many autobiographies. Definitely a solid 8/10

Wowzers it‘s been a busy week, with Harry Potter Book Night on Thursday! Having a relaxing bath reading some more of MSTSK, which I am thoroughly enjoying so far 🛁🤓

I really ought to finish one book before I start another. This is one of the five I currently have on the go. Spot the cameo by one of my kitties!

I started this yesterday. Enjoying it so far, lives up to the hype.

Finished this today. The story is intriguing; made homeless Raynor and her husband Moth decide to walk the 630 mile South West coast path. Unfortunately the writing wasn‘t great, was quite repetitive in places and I ran out of patience for them. 5/10 wasn‘t awful, wasn‘t brilliant

This has been on my “to read” list for ages. I‘m already 69 pages in, and it‘s incredible. Reading it on my Kindle because the other approximately 7,654 books I have at home don‘t appeal just now!

AlohaAmy @rachaich Have you read this? Also, you do have me for book club next month 🤓 5y
rachaich It's on my list too 😍😍 I thought it was a book club choice for later in the? 5y
AlohaAmy @rachaich Now you mention it, yes, I think it‘s on the list. This is a turn up for the books - me actually reading something ahead of time, not the day of the reading group 😂 5y

Whizzed through this, partly on audiobook in the gym, and partly the hardback. My manager at the library messaged me yesterday to check I was ok leading the reading group this month, and thinking the group was next week I heartily agreed. Then I realised the group is tonight! Whoops!
Marianne and Connell are frustratingly relatable as they navigate their world apart, and as they are magnetically pulled back together. I loved this book!

Aside from one or two interesting insights and snippets of trivia, this book was badly written, enormously repetitive and ‘dumbed down.‘ Also contained numerous typos and words left out of sentences. What could have been an engaging insight into Britain‘s notorious high security facility for those deemed criminally insane, was very bland.

On Saturday nights I usually read true crime. This was brought to staff‘s attention by a library customer as they thought it ought to be banned for containing inappropriately graphic descriptions. Luckily I have a strong stomach, so let‘s see!

First non-fiction of the year is Three Women by Lisa Taddeo, which I‘ve been looking forward to for a long time. I hope it lives up to my expectations, as I‘ve read some fairly harsh criticisms.

rachaich This sounds very intetesing 😊😊 5y

I started the year with Friends Like These by Sarah Anderson, and finished the year with In Her Eyes by the same author. I read 23 books in 2019 (I‘d set myself a goal of 24) and I‘m aiming to read 30 in 2020.
