I love historical fiction, psychological horror, and political pieces. I might just be another angsty teen, but I try to keep an open mind.

Feeling spooky with a Clive Barker and Stephen King reading spree. I‘m a huge fan of both authors, and when I saw these in a used bookstore I just had to get them. I‘m going to try to finish both of them before 2020. Wish me luck!

The Hazel Wood | Melissa Albert
Mehso-so

This book had the most promising beginning. It had a live interest, a riveting plot, and a relatable main character. However, the book lost me with drastic twists and turns, heartless actions, and lack of morals. Not to mention any fan girl would dislike the turnout of the love interest. All in all, great writing, but the plot disappoints.

I was recently sent these books from a family member. I‘ve only just started them, but I‘m already learning new things! I can‘t wait to put all of this new found knowledge to good use.

I would highly recommend this to history junkies and fans of The Crucible. It is beyond informative, recounting the Salem witch trials with close attention to detail and beautiful writing. Whether you‘re reading for pleasure or for a high school lit class, you will appreciate it. It may get boring at times, but the book leaves you feeling more informed of the dark time in history.

Equal Rites | Terry Pratchett
Pickpick

This book follows a young girl who wants nothing more than to become a wizard. In this world, wizardry is a masculine magic, as apposed to the feminine witchcraft. With an old witch, Granny Weatherwax, guiding her, the girl navigates becoming a wizard against all odds. This book explores gender roles in a magical way. A must read by the always astounding, Terry Pratchett.

(This review does not cover the movie. However, the movie can calmly burn in hell) The book was.. interesting. It follows a teenaged girl named Bianca. Bianca has a lot of gumption, and really speaks to average teen girls, but the story is severely lacking. It‘s almost as if the author realized this in the middle of writing it, but instead of adding better plot points, they just put in more sex scenes!

The Wee Free Men | Terry Pratchett
Pickpick

I love all works by Terry Pratchett, but this book and series stands out to me. The main character (Tiffany Aching) really speaks to all of the young females who feel average. In a strange way, this book is a real self esteem booster. It sends the message that average girls can be extraordinary too. And maybe extraordinary isn‘t extravagant, but it still matters.

This book is beyond brilliant. The astounding historical accuracy and brazing political opinions really complete the work. A true must-read!

Be More Chill | Ned Vizzini
Pickpick

This book is beyond relatable for any awkward teen. The story follows socially unacceptable Jeremy Heere as he navigates high school. Campy with a sci fi twist, a true must read
