I loved this! Mr Smith's adventures in pre-revolutionary New York are like a witty 18th C picaresque novel.

Upsetting and beautiful in equal measure. Unflinching in it's portrayal of the brutalities of the building of America, ultimately it's about the redemptive power of love. The language is totally immersive. Amazing.
