Orphan #8 | Kim Van Alkemade

Pickpick

Orphan #8 is a historical fiction novel about a young Jewish girl in the early 1900s. I found it to be a compelling tale filled with the horrors of humans and the kindness as well. Many things that happened to her were awful and I don't understand how people could have done those things. Many people she encountered were beyond wonderful. I did have trouble at times figuring out the timetables of events, but all in all an excellent read.

The Rowan | Anne McCaffrey

I love Anne McCaffrey. I do. And the first half of the book was fabulous. But once she brought in the love interest the whole story went downhill. The relationship is unhealthy and rushed. Also the main suspenseful event that needed to be overcome, was rushed, summarized, and solved quickly with no intellectual strain. Disappointing.

I would classify this book as a 'beach read' for me- easy and quick. Which is how most YA books are for someone who has not been a young adult in quite awhile. I'm glad I read it. I appreciate it for what I would have gotten out of it 20 years ago. It would have been very thought provoking. I will be recommending this series to my daughter in a couple of years if she likes dystopian :)

This seems to be a Tamora pierce year for me. I read one or two new books then come back to my YA shelf for one or two of hers before going out and finding something new. Not that I'm complaining :)

I just finished tricksters choice and started tricksters queen... Again. Revisiting my favorite YA books is like having a high school reunion with people I actually liked 😃😜
