I'm aware of the controversy surrounding this book. That said I found it to be an enlightening novel. If the lesson to be learned is one of a perspective of a white American regarding Latin Americans than that is worthy of reading. I read it and I liked it. Full disclosure and I don't apologize.

Sectarian, secular, atheist or agnostic this is a novel worth reading. It is a perfect example of Russian emotion, spirituality and morality exploding onto the page. Don't expect a dull moment, you won't get one.

Simply my favourite book. If the stuffy arrogance of the adult world has you weary, dive down a rabbit hole of whimsy and wonder.
