The writing is just so good. Strangely, I am enjoying this a lot more than the 1st book.
Loved the 1st book in this trilogy. Looking forward to reading this.
Some very interesting essays so far. Ideal for reading in short bursts and letting your thoughts percolate on the various themes discussed.
This is one heck of a ride across a vast universe! There was a lot of hype surrounding this book. But the initial third of the plot was disappointing. It felt contrived and the suspense was being built up artificially for me. But the rest of the book more than made up for it. The focus on the protagonist's experiences and the twist (unusually comes around the 70%) really set this apart. Highly recommend this one even if it tends to be predictable.
The initial third of the book was boring and cliched. But the plot has taken a staggeringly good turn since then. My review will be up tomorrow.
This is an excellent fantasy tale which is surprisingly thorough for a debut. Do check out Zen Cho‘s ‘Sorcerer To The Crown‘ which also runs along the same lines. Both are fantastic books. There are many hilarious moments and the writing takes its time in setting up scenes.
Thankfully, Jonathan Strange strolls in to liven things up just as the plot begins to meander. Absolutely loving the book so far!
Looking forward to dive into the magical world of 18th century England.
Although ‘The Secret History‘ is let down by a relatively thin plot and some pacing issues, the writing and the atmosphere elevate it into a very good suspense.
The synopsis of the book listed might be misleading. The choices, motivations and actions of the 6 students really drive the book.
