Current situation. 💙 My hometown is hosting the NHL All-Star game this weekend, and my beloved Stanley Cup Blues are well-represented for the Central. It seems like the perfect time, finally, to cozy down with some hockey off the screen too. I'm so looking forward to this. #winter2020 #cozyread #stlblues #hockeycrazed

🗝Loved this book! I was still putting all of the puzzle pieces together well after I turned the last page, and (quite frankly) it broke my heart. Comes with a beautifully crafted gothic setting, modern influences, some drama, and plenty of moments of intensity. Modern goth is alive and well! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

I CANNOT put this down! It is all kinds of modern gothic wonderfulness. It reminds me a bit of Netflix's The Haunting of Hill House (their adaptation, not Jackson's original). Apologies to the two books I put on the back burner while I inhale this one. 🤷‍♀️ Ware is new to me. I don't know why I waited so long. Reading from my TBR pile is working out well. 😊

marleed The hearts invisible furies is older but I read it in 2020. I loved it so much. 1w

I think I liked this book? It's been awhile since I've read a fast-paced, suspense laden novel. I always LOVE time travel ⏲ and definitely appreciated the book's philosophical take on the power of our memories. Lots of thought and emotion! This one had me hooked until the last 100 pages or so when the story seemed to flatline. I was already invested, so I pushed on. I give it a 3. Not mad I read it, but not quite 5 star status.

Tara's experiences made me think more deeply about how we experience/view the world and how our perceptions are shaped by our environments. This book felt like a private exhibition of mourning and release. It was definitely intense. I am sure her story will stick with me for some time.

I had put off reading this earlier because I thought it would be too much like The Glass Castle. However, I think what is most striking (for me) about Tara's memoir is that her lifeline runs almost parallel to mine. While I was ringing in the new millennium with my high school boyfriend, she was hunkered down waiting for the end of the world with her father. Our youths could not have been any more different even in this modern world.

I finished it, but found it to be pretty scattered. Too many stories were left unresolved and the characters never really connected with one another in a satisfying way. Ready to move on!

I loved the bookstore setting and literary scavenger hunt/mystery with The Tempest at its heart. This is good if you like family drama and bookstore charm. I figured out the mystery pretty early, but it was still an enjoyable read.

I just started this one, and I am loving it so far; but I think I may have figured out the mystery in chapter one? Maybe not? Mid 90s culture and literary allusions are ❤ in chapters 1 and 2. It's enough to keep me interested. 🤓 I love a good bookstore novel coupled with 8.5 inches of the fluffy stuff ❄! #snowday #readingandcocoa #theweatheroutsideisfrightful

This book was so cute! An adorable love story that felt like Love Actually and Definitely, Maybe all rolled in one. Readers grow with each of the main characters as they experience the ebb and flow of life in their 20s and 30s. Even though some of the "coincidence" in the story was fantastical, Silver balanced it out by keeping it real when making choices about how her characters respond to these situations. A delightful December read!

NeedsMoreBooks Surprisingly, I enjoyed this, too 😊 1mo

City of Girls | Elizabeth Gilbert

Mehso-so

A catalog of ferociously flawed characters make up this ambitious foray into New York's 20th century theater scene. Young Vivian's story was crafted so beautifully; I wish Gilbert would have stayed in her past rather than trying to span the centuries with a frame narrative. Because young Vivian's relationships were so richly developed, I didn't have it in me to care much about her final relationship which was the premise of the entire novel.
