~The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger.
While I couldn't exactly relate to the character's perception of the world (mine is not quite so grim), I definitely understand it. The novel is a fast-paced, easy read, and leaves you a little uncomfortable by the end, which is to me a sign of a good read.
