Had to put my book down to take my kid to his teen book club that meets every week at Barnes and Noble. So this is today‘s book haul. I have no self control.

I read 3/4 of Wolfsong in less than 24 hours. I didn‘t want to put it down but I had to do an emergency run to the bookstore to buy the others books in the series. Even then I wanted to read Wolfsong at the stop lights. Might finish it tonight in the middle of night, so now I‘m prepared. And my Halloween spirit has returned today full force!
This a good debut. I learned a lot about the Japanese occupation of Malaysia that was not taught in school. #foodandlit @Texreader @Catsandbooks
The ingredients in my famous Autumn trail mix. My kids look forward to it all year and we basically eat for snack through out September and October. Dump into a large container with lid and mix.
Power of 3‘s:
3 cereals - corn Chex, Cinnamon Toast Crunch, Apple Jacks
3 nuts/seeds - dry roasted peanuts, honey roasted peanuts, roasted salted green pumpkin seeds/pepitas
3 other - Halloween m&ms, goldfish colors, Halloween shaped pretzels
This is my very unrealistic tbr for #hauntedshelf and #witchathon and October in general. @PuddleJumper
Here is a just for fun #witchathon bingo board for this year. Thought it might help people doing #hauntedshelf. I included some “witchy” activities this year. A book can count for more than one prompt, but if you like a challenge then you can do one book for each prompt. The books all need to have a witch in it to count.
Post your #witchathon tbr. These books I have read specifically for the #witchathon in the past. I have read many more witchy books, including all the Practical magic books, but these are some I enjoyed for #witchathon. I recommend them all.
Saw this idea online and thought I could do that. Apple cider float with an apple cider donut from the local orchard and cool whip and caramel. You can also add chopped nuts but I was out.
Birthday book haul so far. I got to do some of my favorite things today, go to the book store and eat out with my family.
Tried some Malaysian for #foodandlit. The top left is Nasi Lemak, the national dish. It has coconut rice, curry chicken and fresh cucumber. The bottom is Penang Char kway Teow, stir fried flat noodles (hands down favorite). The tortilla looking bread is Roti and served with Prata the red soup with curry chicken and potatoes in it. Too spicy for me and kids. Also two spring rolls and the top middle is curry balls. 👇
I do like this series of cozy mysteries. This one was easy to solve and had an anti-climactic ending. Squeezed in one more summer book for #seasonalcozies (although I found out it takes place in August) @julieclair
My tea has arrived for daily tea reviews in December
Soft pick. It was very steamy and easy to read. I think I felt more connected to the setting than the characters. I see why people love it though.
One of the many perks of homeschooling, dog snuggles during literature class.
The teenager who wakes up in time for breakfast gets to pick breakfast. The apple cider donuts at Dunkin are good. Reading this book for my IRL book club, they picked one last summer read.
Tea review - the new Iced Apple Crisp Nondairy Chai Latte. I loved this. Very creamy and smooth with a little apple kick to it. Would definitely order again and liked it better than the pumpkin spice chai latte.
Another book haul today. My kids has a bookclub/literature class at Barnes and Noble (Divergent is this months book) and I was left unsupervised for 2.5 hrs in the store. Their amazing horror book display got me. I went to Sam‘s to get The Pumpkin Spice Cafe and The Cinnamon Bun Bookstore since they are sold out everywhere (and I walked out with a outdoor Christmas tree and deer yard decoration). Expensive to leave the house these this days.
Book haul from the grand opening. I got a free tote for being a member. My IRL book club is going to meet there next meeting.
Went to the grand opening of a new Barnes and Noble in town. It is one of their new smaller designed ones, looks more like an independent book store. Katherine Applegate cut the ribbon and signed books. She was lovely to talk too. I got three of her books signed.
A follow up to a documentary series and her best selling Soul of the Octopus. Since octopuses are getting more popular, scientists are studying them more. The book highlights the newest things we have discovered about octopuses. New species, how they change colors, their intelligence, social behaviors etc.
My #naturalitsy friends may love this one. A quick read about turtles and those that save them and the science behind why we care for turtles and what we can learn from turtles about time. What amazing creatures.
#witchathon will be held in October again. This is a low key no pressure readathon for the month of October. The only goal is to read one book in October related to witches, but feel free to read more. Tag me whenever you read a witchy book.
I am so ready for apple cider donut season. This ice cream will have to tie me over for a few more weeks.
Couldn‘t put this one down. Was up way to late reading it. I kept trying to go to sleep but had to know what happens so decided I didn‘t need to be mentally present today and stay up to 5 am finishing it.
Murder Road was my favorite book this month. It was a real page turner. Also probably one of my all time favorite thrillers. Honorable mention to Lessons in Chemistry.
Once again I didn‘t like the monthly selections, so I picked a member favorite. I would have skipped but it is my birthday month and I earned the reading challenge prize.
Book mail. I ordered my IRL book club book and somehow more arrived. 😜
Another great read from this author. A man is thinking about retiring so he reflects on his life and mauls over the possible futures. Nice slice of life story.
The reading snacks have arrived
This one would make a good movie. Bit predictable but has all the elements of a good story.
A little late in the game, but I loved this one. I loved the main character!
First time it was cool enough all summer to sit on front porch and read! Only had to wake up at 5 am to enjoy it. And I have a new reading buddy porch goose. I grew up in a house with three generations and my gramma kept a porch goose, it was stolen after she passed away and I have been wanting one ever since. My mom finally found one, not a plastic one but a heavy cement one. My son named him Brightbill after the goose in The Wild Robot.
First pumpkin spice food of the season! So ready for Fall, spending time outside reading.
Todays book haul from the book mobile that came back to the park today for the farmers market. Also got fresh bread and salsa and dinner at the food trucks.
Another great fast paced thriller from this author. Would make a good movie.
The bookmobile came to the brunch place parking lot today. Never seen it so busy, the book mobile was a big draw. And I may or may not of bought this book for the cover alone so I can take a picture of it with my blt 😆 I also bought The Wilds by Sarah Pearse, The Paris Daughter by Kristen Harmel, the first Percy Jackson and a tote bag.
Todays iced tea is called Berry Drink, a fruit tea. Tastes like watery fruit punch, perfect for an iced tea. You can add sugar/sweetener if you like it sweet. Not tart. Has elderberries, grapes, choke berries, blueberries, apple, rosehip, hibiscus, blackberries
Got a rare night off, high schooler is at a dance, youngest is at his first ever sleepover, hubby is at work. But I have to stay close to the dance since it is clear across town so watching Trap and doing some pre movie reading.
I feel like I was watching a horror movie and covered my eyes with my hands but was peaking between my fingers. Definitely a book worthy of the freezer. Had to put it down a few times, it was so scary.
Read for book club. Very good. I really want to know if Tiger returned safely though.
Tea review - strawberry cranberry fruit tea that a litten sent me. Very smooth and fruity. And not tart at all which is a plus. Stronger in the cranberry flavor, but a nice tea to transition from summer to fall with. No need to add anything, maybe a pinch of sugar if you like it sweet but the fruit makes it sweet enough.
Soft pick. I liked the plot. But the narration coming from the daughter that over explained everything didn‘t execute well. I think it would have been better from the mothers point of view.
Today‘s tea review is for a peach ginger rooibos tea someone got from New York. Not too bold in flavor but the perfect amount of peach. Might add some sliced peaches next time. Could use a pinch of sugar or honey if made hot. Nice refreshing cold tea. Would make again.
One entire room for my tbr wasn‘t enough so I had to add a tbr library to my bedroom 😂 each bookcase has a theme. Left one are my flower books (hubby gifts them to me every gift giving holiday so I keep for ever), second one is my unread BOTM, third one is my “Halloween” and witchathon shelf and the right one is my nonfiction and keep forever books (don‘t have many of those cause of space and I like setting them free)
My kid: can we go to the bookstore? The book I want came out today
Me: yes!
He is reading his book and somehow all these came home too. Oops
This book is character driving and I didn‘t particularly like the character. I feel like I have been leisurely siting on a patio overlooking the Aegean Sea and watching the neighbor girl make poor choices. It is bit of a coming age tale over the course of one summer but I don‘t think the character learned anything. Read for #foodandlit @Catsandbooks @Texreader
