The Glass Castle: A Memoir | Jeannette Walls

Pickpick

The book was a wonderful telling of a tragic life, Jeannette had to endure through countless hardships and eventually came out on top, it recounts her journey from early childhood to the present. If you like books that tackle themes of growing up and are memoirs then you‘ll love Glass Castle. The POV of the novel is first person, this is established by Jeannette talking about her emotions at the time of the scenes instead of when she‘s an adult.

TimCreighton Plot summary contd - One of the key moments in Jeannette‘s life is when her father spanks her, she never thought he‘d do that, it tackles appearance vs reality 2y
TimCreighton Techniques used to establish the POV are she refers to herself as I and uses We also talks about how she feels not how she felt, uses current tense words 2y
MissYaremcio Nicely done Tim! Great review! 6/6 2y

So far into the book, which is about halfway, the Walls family has endured through many instances of having to drop everything and leave their current residence. At one point they stayed in a place for a long time, like half a year, before Jeannette had trouble with a boy and an interaction with the police caused them to flee.
If you like books that are memoirs with tales of emotional childhood trauma then you‘ll love glass castle.

TimCreighton The theme in the novel that i will talk about is abuse, many times the parents engage in loud long arguments which can be considered psychologically abusive to their kids because they do it right in front of them, there is also a point where the mother talks about how billy deel must‘ve grown up in an abusive household. 3y
MissYaremcio Thank you for the review Tim! Abuse is definitely very prominent in this novel! 6/6 3y

i still haven‘t finished this book but it is still one of my favorite pieces of literature i‘ve read, it‘s action packed and the characters are all really well written, even the side characters. If you like books with lots of action and some essence of politics then this is a great book for you. The POV of the book would be third person omniscient as we get a lot of story‘s while the main character isn‘t around but we don‘t really know any of the

TimCreighton (pov continued) - inner thoughts of the characters. over i would rate the book a 4/5 as it is a bit confusing at some parts but overall it is really good 3y
MissYaremcio Thank you for the review Tim! I would have liked a bit more in the plot summary so I would know what the book is about! 5/6 3y

i have only gotten to chapter 7 at this point, and so far i am really enjoying this book. the main character is really cool and the author does a very good job at using visualization. i haven‘t been bored of the book yet while reading and i know it‘s only going to get better. If you like books that are action packed with a main character that seems to be care free you will love this book. the motif in the book are the mentioning of religious

TimCreighton CONTINUED..... the motif in this book is the mentioning of religion and religious things, this is important because one of the first things we learn is that there is a Protestant Vs Catholic civil war going on 3y
MissYaremcio Very nice review Tim! I'm glad that you have been enjoying this book! 6/6 3y
