As this is a collection of poetry, Belcourt switches between first person and third person limited narration depending on the pronoun use in his poem.

A dystopian tale about age where once you turn 50, and if you are childless, you are put into a facility where your organs are harvested for 'useful' people. I loved this story as it combined my love of dystopian societies with medical misadventures. One of themes present is overcoming mental hurdles and self-doubt, as our main character struggles with the idea of losing her life to be finally useful in a busy society.

Matteo and Rufus and find each other as Last Friends, and attempt to get through the day together. I liked the premise of this book, however I found it lacking in description and movement. The theme of this novel is friendship and it holds the plot as it is the motivation for these characters.

I loved this book! I found myself reaching for the second on Hoopla only to discover it wasn‘t available, so sad. An important symbol is the knife, as both of our apprentices learn from its blade what it means to be lethal but caring.

This book is about Frankie Presto's journey to discovering himself through music. Narrated in the second person by the concept of Music itself, this story unfolds through important musical events and moments in Frankie's life. I loved this story and I would highly suggest anyone who loved “the Book Thief“ or loves music to read the book. A symbol in the book is the blue guitar strings as they detail the lives that Frankie changes with his music.

Such a good story of a coming-of-age trip for our Filipino-American protagonist, Jay. Unsure what to purse in post secondary, and after hearing of his cousin‘s death, he travels to the Philippines to find out what actually happened. Loved how realistic our protagonist was. If you like mysteries, post-colonialism lit, cultural injustices and family drama - you‘ll love this one! (FYI: She tried eating the book, hence the slobber on the front)

Hearts Unbroken details the life of an Indigenous youth in high school as she attempts to navigate the world of dating. Her family continuously faces the struggle of being different than the rest of the town, to the point where they are threatened. The Tin Man from the WizardofOz is the recurring motif of the novel and it adds to the themes of appearance versus heart. If you like books that detail realistic highschool events youll like this one.

Received the cutest book from my boyfriend for Christmas! A collection of hilarious, relatable and love-filled comics from one of my favorite cartoonists. I giggled the entire time I read it and kept pointing to certain panels saying “same”. Best. Christmas. Present. Ever.

Read both books in Atwood‘s best-selling series over the break! “The Testaments” ties several loose ends up from “the Handmaid‘s Tale” and really highlights the strength of female empowerment. I loved the first book so much so the second had a lot to live up to - and at times I felt that it did not deliver the same punchliness that Atwood is known for! A must read even though I liked the first better!

“Giv 9/10 lickz cuz old hooman words are confuzzlin. Bonuz lickz for familee tree that made lotsa more sense for hooman to follow story.” If you love Shakespeare but are confused by old English vernacular and the staggering twists and turns of Romeo and Juliet - the graphic novel may help you make sense of what is actually going on!

Now that I am a teacher, I will be only teaching K9 studies until further notice..... just kidding - had to show off the dog and the stack of new reads I picked up from the library!

#2: Daniel is a nerdy middle school kid/author with both below average football skills & charisma. As he attempts to navigate his life in a world filled with zaps, Daniel struggles to figure out who is he & who his friends (specifically “girl” friends) are. If you like books that deal with mental health, you‘ll like this one. The pacing of the book started off slow (hard to get into), but by about page 150 it was at a much more enjoyable level.

Estella, a 1940s French seamstress, unexpectedly finds herself fleeing to Manhattan as the Germans near. Fabienne, begins to piece together the story of her grandmother‘s life as she travels to a 2015 exhibition of her grandmother‘s life work at the Met. If you like books that cross generations to solve the heartache of WWII, you‘ll love this one! The tone Lester sets allows us to see the love, heart-ache and strength of these remarkable women.

One of the classic issues in any type of fairytale... *sigh*

I seriously hope that the original movie has a continuation with the second and third novel in this series! I loved the different perspectives with the different characters that Kwan incorporated into the novel - his use of tone distinctly sets each apart. Kwan expertly captures the trials and tribulations leading up to the marriage between Nicholas and Rachel, in a heart wrenching and on-the-edge-of-your-seat manner.

Loved this! I read the book after watching the movie and realized that the book was about 1000 times better! I absolutely fell in love with this series and am glad that the movie introduced me to an author who captures his audience with vivid imagery and authentic real-life situations!
