@SerialReader is my new favorite thing. Obsessed.

Well-ReadNeck I think I'm going to have to jump on this bandwagon! 8y

My favorite illustrated version of my favorite book, which I reread every August. This treasure was discarded by the Iowa Mennonite School library and gifted to me by a dear friend.

SusanInTiburon That is a treasure! 8y

I wanted to love this so badly. The character development is stellar and the Plumb family brings quirk to a whole new level. However, every plot point that could have been dramatic and engaging was lackluster and understated. This sets up plot just to watch it slowly deflate.

Wow, how novel. 🙄I guess choosing not to Google something counts as a character trait for teenage girls these days.

AmbityScambity That line made me laugh. I love the quirks of each character. 9y
AmbityScambity (I've also noticed that I keep repeating that sentiment to anyone who will listen. Or just anyone within earshot, really.) 9y
clairelisebella @AmbityScambity I am loving the characterization too but still struggling to get through. At least at this stage, I'm getting frustrated with the pace and chapters unexpectedly devoted to minor characters. 9y

Slow moving but still at it.

AmbityScambity I'm also finding it's not as fast of a read as I was expecting, but I'm savoring everyone's quirkiness more this way. 9y
clairelisebella @AmbityScambity I was told it was a "beach read" but the timeline is a little too contorted for speedy reading. But the character development is on point! 9y

Brunch and The Nest. This book has been EVERYWHERE lately, so I really hope it lives up to the hype.

While this isn't a masterpiece like The Moonstone, The Haunted Hotel has its merits. Gothic mysteries are one of my guilty pleasures, and Collins is an expert at creating unreliable narrators to drive suspense. However, I disliked being constantly reminded of clues presented earlier-literal overkill
