I love Sarah Beth Durst's books. Love them. So this was a HUGE disappointment for me. I had to restart it 3 times, then I stopped and started another 2 or 3 times and then I forced myself to finish.

With the exception of the main character, motivations and histories are told, not shown, to the reader. It's hard for me to understand why Ven is so drawn to the Queen or why she makes her bargains. Without that, I wasn't really invested in anything.

Everybody needs to read this book. Everybody. It will open your eyes about the state of immigration in the United States.
Bonus round: Diane reads the audio herself. AMAZING.
