Bailed. I could not stand the way Brighton treated Charlotte. A lot of gaslighting and blame-shifting. Those behaviors are dealbreakers for me. They're not romantic and they're not how we should treat the people we love. There are other spicy FF holiday romances I recommend instead ⬇️

A wonderful book about LGBTQIA+ representation in television. It was written before the 2024 election. I cried reading the last chapter, which talked about the potential backlash that could undo the progress that‘s been made in TV.

I love this pic of Cam, Mitch, and Lily from Modern Family. Image from Modern Family Wiki.

#MentalHealthMonday check in

1. I‘m tired & disappointed I didn‘t sleep well. But I‘ll be OK. I have to remind myself it‘s not a moral failing to be tired.
2. I used to think feeling sad for ANY reason meant I was mentally unwell. I now know mental health (for me) isn‘t about feeling happy vs. feeling sad. It‘s about emotional regulation. Processing & expressing my feelings in healthy ways rather than ignoring them or trying to erase them. ⬇️

CatLass007 I found out in December that I have an ulcer. My GI doc told me to stop taking my arthritis medication, Celebrex, and all NSAIDS. My primary care doctor first prescribed a topical pain medication that didn‘t work. Then he dragged his heels about giving me a referral to Pain Management. I only stopped taking my old med last week and it‘s taking a couple of days for the new pain med to take effect. When I awoke this morning my knee hurt so (cont)⬇️ 3d
CatLass007 much I could barely walk. Finally, finally! I started getting relief late this morning. I‘m figuring out how long I can go between doses and setting alarms accordingly. I feel very relieved. @Kerrbearlib Kerry, you are so right! I spent the first 30 years of my life not knowing there were no “bad” feelings. It‘s the expression of feelings that is either healthy or unhealthy. So I‘ve spent the last 30+ years of my life figuring out the (cont)⬇️ (edited) 3d

“Verbal abuse is like a cloud that can descend not only upon a family but also upon a nation. Dictators and tyrants have gained power by disparaging people, while their behavior went unnoticed by whole populations. 1. I‘m ok. Having anxiety about things I must get done, but I‘m managing the anxiety well.
2. Music 100% helps my mental health.
3. Bee Gees are my go-to when life is tough. Writer Sarra Manning has a great quote about The Bee Gees that sums up why I love them. ⬇️

Kerrbearlib “The Bee Gees always leave me feeling whole again. They restore my bruised and battered equilibrium and give me strength to carry on. The brothers Gibb soothe away troubles with a honeyed groove and the seamless sense of completion that pours out of the speakers. Sometimes the most obvious routes to pleasure are obvious because they're so right. Go on, trust me on this. Let The Bee Gees slink into your life and make the hurt better." 1w

CatLass007 @TheBookHippie @Kerrbearlib I haven‘t thought about the Bee Gees in ages! But now I have “Stayin‘ Alive” stuck in my head. 1) I am feeling some sense of calm because I received my notice from TennCare that they will cover my MSP (Medicare Savings Plan) for one more year. I have to reapply every year. That‘s if they don‘t refund Medicaid. So there‘s still a little bit of uncertainty there. I‘m just not going to let it get to me, which is (cont)⬇️ 1w
CatLass007 easier said than done. 2) When I‘m not listening to an audiobook I‘m listening to Pandora. And just as I am a mood reader, I am a mood listener. Goodness, gracious, I just remembered back in college my roommate and I wouldn‘t even leave our dorm room if we didn‘t hear “Neutron Dance” on the radio. That‘s something else I haven‘t thought of in ages. I wouldn‘t listen to it if I was getting ready for bed. That‘s a get up and get motivated song. ⬇️ 1w
CatLass007 @DebinHawaii Yay! 3) I don‘t really have any “go to“ music. I love all types of music except for heavy metal, acid rock, bluegrass, and most rap. I make an exception for The Cat Rapper. Even if I‘m in a bad mood one day and then a bad mood the next I might choose two different types of music to listen to to elevate my mood. 1w

I read self-help books on topics relevant to my life. I avoid ones with a “this is the only way/right way to do things” or “do this and all your problems will go away” messages. We are different and what works for one person may not work for another.

I‘m still reading this book, but so far it‘s been a good tool for healing my childhood trauma.

AnnCrystal I wrote this on another post...

Books & artist will always be considered a threat. We should gather & do a protest by going outside, finding a safe, legal place to sit & read from dawn to dusk for a day. If anything, it will drive the suppressors crazy. Writers should come with typewrites or journals and artist with canvases.

Again, Just to be clear, I am not officially suggesting this 😜📚💝...just beginning 2 wonder what this may look like.

1. I‘m doing well. Sleep debt is down & I‘m spending less time online.
2. I‘m sleeping better. Sleep is hard for me due to ADHD & anxiety. I‘m glad my sleep is going well.
3. I use the Rise sleep app to keep track of my sleep debt. I also give my husband my electronics every night & ask him to hide them. That way I can‘t use them in the middle of the night.

CatLass007 1) I know I‘m sleepy. I had a doctor‘s appointment this afternoon and I was actually thinking of rescheduling it because I nearly fell asleep at the table eating breakfast. I did reschedule it because he‘s not in town. He‘s had a family emergency, which is bad for him but convenient for me. 2) I didn‘t sleep at all last night. Which is why I almost fell asleep. CatLass007 general rule, difficulty falling asleep is a symptom of depression, and not being able to stay asleep is a symptom of anxiety. I think in my case, it‘s a bit of both. 1. Tired but hopeful it will be a good day overall.
2. I practice self-care by going for walks, journaling, etc.
3. I would love to hear what topics you‘d like to discuss for a future #MentalHealthMonday!

CatLass007 1) I feel pretty good. I have gone over a day and a half without a migraine. It‘s a nice change. 2) My favorite form of self-care is listening to audiobooks and cuddling the kitties at the same time. It‘s kind of hard to beat cuddling kitties as wonderful. 3) I will have to give it some thought. 3w
CatLass007 3) I‘ve been told that meditation is helpful in relieving migraines as well as chronic pain. I am terrible at just breathing and paying attention to my breath so that type of meditation is not helpful to me. I would really love some resources on meditation and maybe visualization. I have an Audible membership and I don‘t really know which guided meditations are helpful and which ones are going to be a waste of my time. 3w
Kerrbearlib @CatLass007 that‘s great that you haven‘t had a migraine. They are awful! I love audiobooks and cuddling with kitties too! I am also not good at breathing and paying attention to my breath. I‘d also like to find a meditation that works for me. For now, I find it helpful to light a candle and just sit quietly for a few minutes. 3w

Kerrbearlib @CatLass007 thanks for responding! 3w
CatLass007 Do you have Audible? Or there also are meditations on YouTube. I have found a lot of free meditations on Audible, but I‘ve been lax about trying any of them. I have tons of candles but I never even thought about lighting them to assist in meditation of any kind, even just sitting quietly. One of the reasons I‘m hesitant to use candles is because I just imagine one of the cats singeing their whiskers. I will have to give them more thought. 3w
CatLass007 I‘m sure the others will respond. We‘re all in different time zones. It‘s approximately 6:30 PM in East Tennessee, which is the Eastern Time Zone, and Hawaii is five or six hours behind us. I can‘t remember which. I don‘t know which time zone you‘re in and I don‘t know in which time zone @CBee is. 3w
TheBookHippie @CatLass007 I light a tiny no scent candle while I‘m doing my meditation in the am 10-15 min. I have it in windowsill and just blow it out immediately when done. My friend uses one of those fake tea light ones. (edited) 3w

CBee @CatLass007 I‘m terrible at meditation. Well, terrible at sticking with it. I did find the Calm app to be helpful. There are also a ton of podcasts out there - plus I‘ve always heard good things about this book 3w
CatLass007 @CBee @TheBookHippie @wanderinglynn I‘ve tried meditation that‘s focused breathing and it‘s just not for me. That‘s why I won‘t be trying that type of meditation again. I have had good experiences with the type of meditation during which the leader has you visualize yourself in a certain environment and doing certain things. CatLass007 @CBee The author also has written another book with a title that totally resonates with me. 3w
mhillis @CatLass007 I have found this meditation helpful. Makes me fall right asleep 😆 https://youtu.be/dzXaNxdXPiE?si=_Ns5eD4IH4nJ8F_J 3w
mhillis Any topic is great,One suggestion might be fiction books related to mental health 3w
CatLass007 @mhillis Thanks for the link. I have insomnia tonight so it‘s very timely. Since you are asking for fiction books regarding mental health, I would suggest the Pulitzer Prize winner by West Virginia native Jayne Anne Phillips Night Watch. The fictional story takes place in a historical location run by a doctor who developed new ways of treating the mentally ill. 3w
CatLass007 @mhillis Aaand it‘s for migraine and chronic pain. Perfect. 3w
mhillis @CatLass007 Thanks, I‘ve never heard of that book! But it‘s very popular—it will take a couple of months on hold at the library! Hope you have a good nights sleep 3w
CatLass007 @mhillis It‘s almost 4:00 AM, I think a good night‘s sleep might be too much to hope for at this point. 3w
CBee @CatLass007 oh, I might have to check that one out, sounds perfect for me 😂 3w
CatLass007 @CBee I know, right?! 3w
Kerrbearlib @CatLass007 sorry for the late reply! I do not have Audible. I've seen meditations on YouTube before and I think they may also have some guided ones on Spotify if you have that service. Understandable about not using real candles around the cats. Would a fake candle work? 3w
Kerrbearlib @ElizaMarie thanks for responding, and sorry for the late reply! 3w
Kerrbearlib @ElizaMarie thanks for responding, and sorry for the late reply! 3w
CatLass007 I don‘t know if a fake candle would provide the same “feel.” I‘ve looked on YouTube. I never thought to look on Spotify though because I don‘t pay for the service so if there‘s something for free on there, I might be interested. 3w
Kerrbearlib @mhillis thanks so much for responding and for the suggestion! I love the idea of fiction books related to mental health. If you like romance the one I've tagged has a main character who has depression. I haven't finished it yet so I'm not sure how good it will be, but I'm enjoying it so far! 3w
Kerrbearlib @CatLass007 I'll let you know if I see anything! 3w
mhillis @Kerrbearlib that‘s great, thanks for the recommendation 🙌 3w

Forbidden by Beverly Jenkins is a book I read that was even better the second time around. Not only is it a great historical romance, but it also addresses important issues like class and racism. The HEA = so good!

I read it the second time while vacationing in Belize. Hubby & I vacationed there the week of the 2024 election. It was a very needed poolside read after the election results! A wonderful escape!

1. Last week was rough. I‘m a huge figure skating fan & the DC plane crash shook me up. Plus the other nonsense in the world. But I had good moments too.
2. I‘m tired but enjoying the day.
3. I‘m watching a Nightwish concert on YouTube with a friend today. Music always brings me joy.

CatLass007 @BooksandCoffee4Me I‘ve never heard of Nightwish. I will check them out. 1mo
CatLass007 Last week was probably the roughest I‘ve had since the November election. I panicked a little too much about my health insurance being affected by his funding freeze. I receive Medicare, but TennCare pays my premiums, as well as subsidizing my medication so that I have very low co-pays. In Tennessee TennCare is Medicaid. I finally convinced myself that panicking was not a healthy response in anyway whatsoever, and it is pointless. So I (cont)⬇️ 1mo

CatLass007 I listened to the song. I didn‘t understand all the lyrics so I‘m gonna have to go back for that. Today is the 39th anniversary of the Challenger Disaster. I was in kindergarten at the time. Thankfully, my class did not watch the launch. Folks who were alive then, do you remember where you were that day?

My friend Stephi wrote this great book about Ellison Onizuka, one of the Challenger astronauts.

TheBookHippie Kindergarten 😂🤣😂 Yah. I was working, clinicals- nursing senior year college- we watched on TV in break room. My baby brother however watched in school. 1mo

Kerrbearlib @Bookwormjillk that‘s good that your class was going to watch it later & that you didn‘t see it live. I can picture the teacher coming in and wheeling the TV away. 1mo
Kerrbearlib @lil1inblue that must have been very confusing for your class. How did your teacher react? I can‘t imagine what that was like for teachers, having to explain to the kids while processing the shock. 1mo

DogMomIrene I was in high school. I didn‘t see it live, but during passing period a bunch of students were outside the journalism classroom. They had posted multiple copies of the AP story on their glass windows with a huge sign written in Sharpie that the Challenger Exploded! We were queuing up to read the details quickly. CatLass007 1) I‘m doing okay today so far. Follow-up appointment with my PCP this afternoon. The foam for my psoriasis is not generic so I can‘t afford the copay. I will ask him to prescribe something else. And the topical cream he prescribed for my arthritis isn‘t helping so I‘m going to need a referral to pain management. But neither of those is a big deal. 2) I can‘t remember if I‘ve ever read any mental health care books. I know I have some (cont)⬇️ 1mo
