This story deals with death, family, loss, depression, and sisterly love. I didnt really get into this book until about half way. I felt like the writing was okay it kept me entertained and wanting to read more. I knew what the twist was going to be from the beginning of the book. I felt like it was a little unrealistic but still liked it for what it was. Short book and a fast read.

Beautiful cover but this book wasnt for me. I loved the beginning of the book. I liked the idea of the book. Set in the future there is a war going on in this country. I liked the female cast of soldiers and the fighting. But there came a part of the book where I just got to confused with what was going on and eventually lost interest. I was really disappointed. Wanted to love it.

This book takes place in Spain during the 1950 when it was under dictatorship by Fransisco Franco. Even though this was a work of historic fiction it was based on some actual facts of things going on in Spain during that time.

mandi1082 I love Ruta Sepetys writing and this was no exception. I was thoroughly engrossed in the pages and very fascinated and intrigued with the story. I loved the characters especially Daniel. I enjoy historic fiction and loved that this was something different from what I have read before. This was a great read. 4d

T W: Suicide, homophomophobia, death of a parent, transphobia, depression

I decided to listen to this audiobook and I don't know if that is what brought my rating down but I felt like I couldn't connect with the Characters. some parts of the story felt unrealistic. I know it somewhat of a Love Story but I didn't feel it. I did like the duo perspectives. I liked the friendship. I had a hard time getting through this book.

My mind is a little mind blown over what I just read. This is definitely not a read for anybody that might have trigger warnings with rape, kidnapping, murder, fetishes, and many more. My list could go on and on. The writing of this book kept me intrigued and I just wanted to know how this was going to end.

LazyLibrary I had been forewarned about the contents of this book beforehand. So I was mentally prepared. Had I gone in blindly, I probably wouldn‘t have been able to stomach it. All of that aside, it was a very good read. 2w

2️⃣⭐⭐
Not impressed 😔 I listened to the audiobook and listened along. I found the synopsis of the story intriguing. About a small town and 4 powerful families keeping the town safe from a monster. Each family has some kind of special power. I found the story lacked a lot of detail. I had a hard time picturing some or most of the scenes. I didnt find any one character that I thoroughly enjoyed or cared about. Maybe the cat 🤷‍♀️

mandi1082 I just found myself waiting for something dramatic to happen but found myself reading a book that is so forgetful. 1mo

The Good Luck Girls is an Adventure seeking revenge type of story. It is said that it reminds people of the Handmaids Tale set in the Wild wild west. Well it's more wild wild West then it is Handmaids Tale. With that being said I still enjoyed this story written by debut author Charlotte Nicole Davis.

mandi1082 You have Clementine who 'accidentally' kills a brag (male customer) so her and her sister Aster decide to go on the run with other Good Luck Girls Violet, Tallow and Mansy. On the way they meet Zee a Rangeman who will help them get to Lady Ghost to get their tattoos remove that let everyone know they are Good Luck Girls so they can live normal lives.

Her mother who tried to be there for her but kept held back by her religion and her faith.

mandi1082 The writing was okay and the flow was good, but the way the messages were handled did not sit with me well. While sight seeing she starts to notice that something strange is going on with people she keeps on repeatedly meeting with.

mandi1082 I want to start off by thanking Netgalley for providing me with an ARC of this book. I requested to read this book because my name was in the title. I was highly impressed with this book. I loved how the author wove facts about the country along with the storyline and kept it so interesting. This book is recommended for children but highly enjoyed traveling to the Netherlands with Amanda! 4mo

3☆☆☆

mandi1082 16 year old Emma accepts a car ride home from Ross a guy from the boys volleyball team. In turn he ends up raping her and she is left to deal with the consequences alone.

I started reading Girls like me and the beginning had my heart breaking and tears streaming down my face. The hurt that Emma feels Kristin Butcher does such a great job writing it.

mandi1082 I felt like the story was written during the times where when things like this happened you kept everything Hush hush. Her mother doesn't believe her, they dont tell her father and he acts naive about what happened. I wanted more from this 144 page story because I felt like there was not enough detail and everything happened to fast and was wrapped up to fast.

mandi1082 I loved the characters in this story. I loved the writing. I loved the issues that it dealt with. Like families, abandonedment, friendship, depression, etc. Some of the quotes I highlighted were so beautiful. I just devoured this story and I didnt want it to end. First book I have read from this author. Will definitely be picking up her other books.

I want to thank Netgalley for providing me an arc of this book for an honest review.

mandi1082 If your a big animal lover and love to hear about horse racing 🏇 this book is for you. I found the book a little slow and the chemistry didn‘t come to play until we got further towards the end of the book. Thank you Netgalley for providing this arc for an honest review. 4mo

OMG!!!!! This book is such a guilty pleasure book. It was highly addictive with all its drama and the back and forth and the ending left me like WTHeck??? This book you will either like or hate yes it has its flaws like the bullying, manipulation, and all the drama but sometimes those kind of books is what gets me hooked and I can't put down. Now i want to dive into the second book please.
