An effective entry into the humorous crime novel genre that takes place in and around the Nashville country music industry at the turn of the century. The story tends to drag when overtaken by the intricacies of music recording and publishing, and the main plot twist is easily guessed way before its gradual reveal, but Fitzhugh introduces enough colorful characters and interesting side plots to keep the story engaging and entertaining.

Everyone‘s favorite Duo of Dairy Destruction are back in House of Fun #0, a collection of Evan Dorkin‘s House of Fun comics originally serialized in Dark Horse Presents #10-12 in 2012. Milk & Cheese make several appearances, as do the Eltingville Club, and there‘s even another episode of that hit sitcom The Murder Family. The spaces between these headliners are filled with Dorkin‘s three-panel comic strips such as Myron the Living Voodoo Doll.

The first book in the Jack Reacher Experiment series, Dead Ringer, had given me some hope that this would be an above average fan fiction series, but Moving Target has me feeling far less optimistic. The playful level of circumstance and coincidence that Dead Ringer seemed to play with as an homage to the Reacher series is cranked to eleven and condensed into half the page count, which could be forgiven if the dialogue wasn't so bad.
