I love this poetry book for its representation and would be great for a younger grade such as 2nd or 3rd. However, it could be used more loosely.

My favorite coworker at the library, who has also worked as a nature educator, created a haiku challenge for #NationalPoetryMonth. She‘s provided photo inspiration (complete with ID). I chose the pictured and tried my hand:

“ from a Lillypad keen Eyes spy a careless fly a sticky tongue snap!”
This is a cute book of haiku‘s. Each animal writes a haiku for another. It is a very cute way to teach the poem.

I shared this today at my early literacy storytime presentation. Poetry and a guess who game, how fun is this book?!
When I read it in storytime I reminded parents that children's brains are learning to make connections, and we should give kids at least 7 seconds before we jump in with an answer.
