In 2157, a mysterious gas known as Variant spreads across the globe, killing or mutating most organic life. The surviving humans take refuge in an underground city, determined to return home. But after generations of failures and botched attempts, hope is beginning to dwindle. That is, until a young scientist makes a unique discoveryand everything changes. Suddenly, theres reason to hope again, and it rests within a group of genetically engineered children that are both human and Variant. Terry is one of these children, modified and trained to endure the harsh conditions of a planet he cannot begin to understand. After years of preparation, Terry thinks he knows what to expect. But the reality is far stranger than anything he can imagineand what he will become is far more dangerous.

I‘m gonna post a book (or series) from my TBR every day until I‘ve shared the lot. No descriptions. No explanations. Just a whole bunch of books I haven‘t read yet.

This is Day 15.

This is a great dystopian sci-fi. It's vaguely reminiscent of The Andromeda Strain mixed with City of Ember, but it goes a different direction. It's an intriguing read, and I'm looking forward to the next in the series.

"Real power isn‘t dealt in bullets, darlings, but in words. Words that stir a man to stand when all the rest have fled…to fight unwinnable wars, all for the sake of a thought. Every leader who made a difference didn‘t do it with a sword or a gun, but with a voice that might have moved a mountain."

"If you do everything we say, if you stick to the plan we‘ve made and follow the rules, maybe you‘ll do what no one else has been able to do in almost two hundred years: stand on the surface and take a breath of fresh air.”

Just started this book and so far it looks promising!
Love me some post-apocalyptic dystopia. :)
