I read this in junior HS in the late 70s and while not a middle grade book it made an impression. Back then I was reading above grade level. It's about Bo Jo and July, who gets married while still in HS because she gets pregnant. Both sets of parents are horrible towards them. Just learned there was a 1970s TV movie with Desi Arnaz Jr as Bo Jo. Here's a movie still also to make up for my boring cover! #funfridayphoto

ValerieAndBooks Hmm...is middle grade level different from middle school level? @liberty? Do I need to try to go farther back in my bookish memories? 8y
Bklover I remember this movie! Think I probably read the book too. Yep, I am that old. 8y
rubyslippersreads I'd totally forgotten about this book/movie until you mentioned them. 😀 8y

LeahBergen Gasp!! I read this book way back when, too! 8y
CherylDeFranceschi Wow! I remember going to the one 1/2 shelf of young adult books (not a thing back then) and getting this book at the library. 8y
ValerieAndBooks @Bklover @rubyslippersreads @LeahBergen @CherylDeFranceschi wow I wish I knew you all back then so we could have gone over the book! None of my friends/family was the kind of reader I was. And, yes what we would call YA now was extremely limited then -- I swear my library branch had almost nothing written/set before the 1950s! 8y
Bklover I know what you mean- I look at the YA section at the bookstore and I get so envious. We kind of had to leap from Nancy Drew to Go Ask Alice! 8y
Gulfsidemusing Wow!! This takes me back! How could I have forgotten about this one😀 8y
ValerieAndBooks @rubyslippersreads the author 's name does sound familiar, but I don't remember reading it. I might have but maybe just once? I looked it up and it seems to have been part of a series -- did you read them all? 8y
ValerieAndBooks @Bklover yes exactly! And combined with parents who didn't monitor what I was reading...😳 8y
ValerieAndBooks @Lakesidemusing yeah! I have no idea why I've hung on to it all these years. Yes, because I thought it was good then, but so were others that I no longer have! 8y
ValerieAndBooks @Bklover @rubyslippersreads @LeahBergen @CherylDeFranceschi @Lakesidemusing I just came across this website (still current ) called " Lost Classics of Teen Fiction" that discusses the plot of Mr and Mrs Bo Jo Jones (with spoilers) and many others! https://www.mondomolly.wordpress.com/2014/01/07/mr-and-mrs-bo-jo-jones-by-ann-he... 8y
CherylDeFranceschi Awesome! 8y
LeahBergen Oh, man! I just got home and it's late here but I'm so going to check that out. Thank you!! 8y
Gulfsidemusing Perfect! Pouring my coffee now and will go take a look😊 8y
Posemn I remember reading this in junior high ( is that even a classification any more)? I remember the storyline and I also THINK I remember feeling almost secretive about reading it. (?) My parents didn't really monitor what I read either. I guess teen pregnancy just felt THAT taboo at the time. Glad things have changed (a bit) now. 8y
ValerieAndBooks @Posemn yes it seems like junior high school is now called "middle school ", maybe because many of them now include 6th grade? And I think another reason why teen pregnancy was so taboo was because of how it happened (aka sex), something that was just beginning to be mentioned in more-mainstream books back then! 8y
