I always meant to read Lynn Coady because she wins so many Canadian literature awards but seems fairly unknown in the states. This novel feels like a combination of quality small working class town capture (John Irving, Richard Russo) and character study (Gabe Habash came to mind.) Set in imaginary Big Harbour, Nova Scotia, the chapters rotate between characters, and the reader gets to know a handful very well.
