This was a hard read. Chris‘s life is told through quotes from people who knew him through every phase of his life. Almost all of it is heartbreaking. You see his family, particularly his father, enabling him at a young age. Chris‘s love and personality and generosity really shine though; I almost feel like I know him at this point. So then reading his descent to death kind of felt like I was losing him all over again, if that makes sense? Cont…

Lauranahe I remember when he died, and how horrible it was. But reading about all his volunteer work, his spirituality, his insecurity, and need for love while putting so much out there for others…it‘s heartbreaking. I felt down a lot while reading this. (edited) 2mo
TheBookHippie I cried through this whole book. 2mo
Lauranahe I did feel like crying several times. When I finished it last night and went to bed, my husband was like “what‘s wrong?” Nothing, except I just finished the Chris Farley book. 😭 So devastating. 2mo

Bailedbailed

In the 90s I loved Farley on SNL and his movies with David Spade. This book is told by his siblings and friends. And it‘s just pissing me off. I don‘t know how Chris would feel today about some of the things he did (esp an incident in high school that caused a girl to seek counseling), but his friends/family have a very “boys will be boys” attitude. Pass.

Going to put the #bookspinbingo back in as a free space.

Sace I don't blame you for bailing. I struggle with "boys will be boys". 4y

AmyG There is no excuse for hurting people. Boys can be kind. It‘s a choice. 4y

Excellent tribute to a beloved comedic actor who was simply helpless against the addictions that cost him his life before his immense and genuine talent could be fully realized. The book is comprised of linked anecdotes and pictures and is highly recommended.
